Job Description

The Assistant Manager (AM) position is a pivotal role within a fast-paced quick service restaurant, serving as the operations leader dedicated to maximizing profitability, enhancing guest service, developing employees, and managing overall restaurant operations. This position operates under the guidance of the Restaurant General Manager (RGM) and supports in driving key performance outcomes and the daily operational management of a single restaurant location. The assistant manager directly oversees a team typically consisting of 20 to 45 employees, including Hourly Shift Coordinators and Team Members, ensuring the smooth functioning of all aspects of the restaurant's operations.

The Assistant Manager plays a critical role in achieving operational excellence from inventory control and cash management to maintaining quality service standards and facilitating people development. In this role, the Assistant Manager is responsible for monitoring and managing inventory costs through daily, weekly, and monthly inventory inspections, placing and receiving inventory orders, and maintaining records of all restaurant assets. The AM also ensures the preventative maintenance of the restaurant’s facilities and equipment complies with company standards, coordinating with external vendors when necessary. Additionally, the role involves strict adherence to cash control and security procedures, including safe counting and cash drawer management, safeguarding the restaurant’s financial integrity.

The Assistant Manager leads the team to exceed guest expectations by delivering accurate, fast, and friendly service consistently within the guidelines for speed of service and cleanliness. Motivating and directing team members is a key part of the role, with a focus on fostering a positive team culture and coaching staff to improve their skills and enhance restaurant performance. The AM is responsible for enforcing operational and brand standards, maintaining a high-quality guest experience, and ensuring that all team members contribute to these goals. Operating also includes stepping into the role of Hourly Shift Coordinator when necessary to maintain workflow and service levels.

This role demands a professional who is at least 18 years old with a minimum of a high school diploma or GED, although two years of college education is preferred. Candidates should have 1-2 years of prior experience in the quick service restaurant industry, with preference given to those with management experience. The Assistant Manager must possess a foundational understanding of profit and loss management to influence restaurant profitability positively, as well as demonstrated leadership and guest service skills. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is required, along with the ability to cover long or irregular shifts as needed to ensure the proper functioning of the restaurant.

Job Duties

  • Manage inventory costs and perform daily, weekly, and monthly inventory inspections
  • Place and receive inventory truck orders
  • Maintain and monitor list of all restaurant assets
  • Ensure preventative maintenance of restaurant facility and equipment
  • Follow all cash control and security procedures
  • Motivate and direct team members to exceed guest expectations
  • Provide coaching and feedback to Shift Coordinators and Team Members
  • Direct restaurant team towards efficient preparation and sale of products
  • Ensure restaurant upholds operational and brand standards
  • Perform duties of Hourly Shift Coordinator when necessary
