The Applebee's Assistant Manager position plays a crucial role within this expansive and growing organization. As an Assistant Manager at Applebee's, you will be deeply involved in all aspects of daily restaurant operations. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure that both guests and staff have a passionate, positive experience every day. This role requires strong leadership skills to motivate and manage a team effectively as well as exceptional problem-solving abilities to handle challenges calmly and confidently. You'll be working in a fast-paced, dynamic hospitality environment where stress management and adaptability are essential.

In this role, you will be a key player in promoting and upholding Flynn Applebee's premier culture, leading by example to cultivate an environment that values service excellence and team collaboration. You will oversee service quality, respond to guest complaints promptly, manage inventory, schedule staff efficiently, and ensure safety and sanitation standards meet or exceed expectations. You will also have a hand in recruitment, training, and development of team members, contributing to a welcoming workplace where employees are empowered to grow.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in restaurant management
  • Ability to work various shifts including weekends
  • Capability to stand and move for up to 10 hours
  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds
  • Basic reading and writing skills
  • Dexterity to use small tools and equipment
  • Willingness to work in all restaurant positions as needed

Job Qualifications

  • At least 2-3 years restaurant management experience
  • Serve Safe Food and Serve Safe Alcohol certifications a plus
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Excellent problem-solving and stress management abilities
  • Effective communication and guest service skills
  • Ability to oversee training and development of staff
  • Knowledge of safety and sanitation standards and regulations

Job Duties

  • Ensures timely, friendly service according to company guidelines, achieving established objectives of the unit
  • Cultivates a culture in accordance with the Flynn Applebee's Premier Card of our core values and beliefs
  • Ensures the immediate response and correction of all verbal guest complaints to self and staff
  • Ensures guest contact as a priority with completion of required table visits established by Flynn Applebee's standards
  • Maintains departmental inventory levels
  • Ensures product preparation and presentation uncompromisingly meeting company standards by performing line checks
  • Effectively schedules employees to meet sales demands
  • Maintains effective safety and security programs
  • Promotes and leads restaurant organization, cleanliness and sanitation
  • Performs routine maintenance and reports needed repairs
  • Promotes quality recruitment and referrals of potential team member and management candidates
  • Promotes Flynn Applebee's training procedures for new managers
  • Helps maintain a trained staff through effective use of employment orientation, individual training sessions, employee meetings and implementation of company policy and training systems
  • Participates in the constant development of employees using One-on-One and performance documentation, and contributes to written evaluations
  • Assesses the efficiency of employees, provides fair feedback regularly, and works with employees on development
  • Monitors acceptable employee performance and documents situations requiring disciplinary or corrective action
  • Assures compliance with company policies, practices and procedures
  • Responsible for controlling cost in assigned department
  • Ensures compliance with local, state and federal laws, regulations and guidelines
  • Drives bi-weekly/weekly food and liquor inventories at the AD/GM's request and is accountable for completion
  • Prepares and submits accurate daily paperwork
  • Assures sanitation standards meet or exceed Health Department and Flynn Applebee's standards
  • Provides a role model for managers and employees
  • Develops self on all store related technology
  • Willing and able to work in all positions and assist in a team member position as needed including cooking, expo, seating guests, bartending
  • Uses the Management Development Program for continuous growth of leadership skills and proficiencies
