Job Description

American Cruise Lines is the largest USA-flagged cruise line operating exclusively within the United States. With a fleet of no more than 200-passenger vessels, the company offers a unique and intimate small ship experience, sailing some of the most scenic and historic waterways in America. Known for their newly constructed vessels, American Cruise Lines provides an exceptional travel experience that emphasizes comfort, history, and cultural enrichment. As a company driven by core values of Optimism, Commitment, Patriotism, and Merit, American Cruise Lines maintains a strong team culture focused on delivering superior service and sharing America’s story through unforgettable cruise experiences.

The role of the Assistant Hotel Manager (AHM) on board their ships is a crucial leadership position within the Hotel Department. This position supports the Hotel Manager in overseeing the entire Hotel Department, ensuring that guests receive high-quality service that consistently meets company standards and exceeds expectations. The Assistant Hotel Manager supervises key staff such as the Housekeeping Manager and Guest Service Coordinator and plays an active role in all aspects of hotel operations, including dining, guest services, shore excursions, onboard enrichment programs, and overall crew morale.

The AHM acts as the Hotel General Manager in their absence and works collaboratively with multiple departments to maintain the smooth operation of hotel services on board. This includes responsibility for maintaining cleanliness of staterooms and public spaces, monitoring shipboard business operations like accounting and reporting, and overseeing bar operations including wine and liquor inventory control. The Assistant Hotel Manager ensures compliance with company policies and procedures, drives staff training and performance assessment, handles guest requests promptly, and fosters a positive and productive work environment for the crew to support superior guest satisfaction.

Working in a vibrant and dynamic environment on a cruise ship requires adaptability, excellent organizational skills, and a commitment to providing gracious hospitality while adhering to safety and operational guidelines. This full-time, exempt position involves working seven days per week while onboard, with shifts typically lasting up to 12 hours. Crew members live and work onboard for extended periods, generally six to eight weeks on followed by one to two weeks off. This role demands a professional who is both a team leader and a hands-on manager, visible and approachable to guests and crew, with the ability to motivate and maintain high service standards.

Overall, joining American Cruise Lines as an Assistant Hotel Manager offers a unique career opportunity to contribute to a respected, patriotic company that values its employees and provides competitive compensation, including a daily rate, comprehensive health benefits, 401(k) with match, and covered expenses such as travel, room, board, uniforms, and training. Candidates for this position must be prepared for the physical demands and lifestyle of shipboard employment, including adapting to ship motions, standing for long periods, and performing various physical tasks. This role promises career growth, skill development, and the chance to be part of an exciting team sharing America's finest stories on the water.
