Job Description
Bezos Academy is a distinguished network of tuition-free, Montessori-inspired preschools dedicated to providing high-quality early childhood education in under-resourced communities across multiple states. Focused on children ages three through five, Bezos Academy is committed to expanding access to nurturing, educational environments that foster growth, development, and a love of learning from an early age. As a growing organization, the Academy places a strong emphasis on serving families in low-income areas, ensuring inclusiveness, diversity, and equity remain at the heart of its mission. The preschools operate with a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by underserved communities and tailor educational experiences that respect and reflect these diverse backgrounds and needs.
The Assistant Head of School will play a critical leadership role in the launch and ongoing operations of a new Bezos Academy preschool located in Denton, Texas. This full-time, salaried position entails working closely with the Head of School to ensure smooth and efficient daily operations while building a strong, welcoming community for families, children, and staff. Beyond operational oversight, the Assistant Head of School’s responsibilities include mentoring and developing teaching staff, enhancing educational quality across classrooms, and managing communication within the school community. This role is essential in upholding the high standards Bezos Academy is known for, including adherence to Montessori pedagogy while adapting to the unique needs of the student population.
For this role, the academy offers a competitive salary range of $82,000 to $123,000 annually, with compensation based on qualifications and experience. The upper salary range generally applies to seasoned employees who have demonstrated sustained success in the role. The position includes a generous benefits package that features medical, dental, and vision insurance, life and disability insurance, a 401(k) plan with employer matching, paid parental leave, flexible spending accounts, and various forms of paid time off. Relocation assistance is also available to support candidates moving to the Denton area.
Key elements of the Assistant Head of School position include direct management and coaching of staff such as assistant teachers and food service assistants, active participation in the development and execution of school policies and initiatives, and overseeing the maintenance and safety of school facilities. The individual in this role will also be responsible for vendor management, ensuring that services and site partnerships meet the academy's high-quality expectations. Routine internal audits and compliance monitoring ensure the school environment remains safe, organized, and supportive for all stakeholders.
The ideal candidate brings a passion for educational equity and a strong commitment to diversity and inclusiveness. They will have significant leadership experience in early childhood education settings, particularly with children aged 0 through third grade, and demonstrate a track record of operational and instructional leadership. Experience serving low-income communities is vital, along with excellent communication skills and the ability to foster a collaborative school culture. Familiarity with Montessori philosophy, school compliance standards, and operational management is highly desirable.
This role not only offers a unique professional opportunity to impact the lives of young learners and their families but also aligns with Bezos Academy’s mission to transform early childhood education and eliminate barriers to access. The Assistant Head of School will contribute directly to creating an educational environment where every child has the tools, support, and encouragement to thrive from the very start of their academic journey.
