Job Description
Black Family Hospitality (BFH) is a deeply rooted family-owned Texas institution that epitomizes generations of tradition, heart, and exceptional hospitality. Established in 2014 by siblings Mike, Mark, and Christina Black, BFH launched its flagship restaurant, Terry Black's BBQ, in Austin, TX. From this single location, Terry Black's BBQ rapidly garnered acclaim and became an iconic Texas staple known for its authentic and mouthwatering barbecue offerings. Over the years, BFH has expanded its footprint beyond Austin, now operating multiple locations in Dallas, Lockhart, Waco, and Fort Worth, with ambitious plans to continue growing with new openings scheduled for 2026. The success of Terry Black's BBQ has not only brought unparalleled quality and flavor to the Texas barbecue landscape but also cultivated a beloved community of patrons who value the genuine and heartfelt experience each location offers.
Beyond barbecue, Black Family Hospitality has diversified its brand with the introduction of Opal's Oysters, a distinctive restaurant concept that pays tribute to the family matriarch. This venture combines heritage with culinary innovation and underlines BFH's commitment to excellence. As BFH continues to scale its operations and enhance its portfolio, the corporate functions team is likewise expanding, creating exciting opportunities for dedicated professionals eager to contribute to a family-driven organization where every team member’s role is pivotal in shaping the company’s future.
The role of Assistant General Manager (AGM) at Black Family Hospitality is a dynamic leadership position that involves comprehensive restaurant management responsibilities. The AGM is entrusted with overseeing daily restaurant operations, ensuring not only operational efficiency but also upholding the highest standards of food quality, customer service, and staff performance. The AGM plays a critical part in interviewing, hiring, and training restaurant staff, focusing on fostering employee engagement and professional growth. Through personal attendance and active involvement, the AGM serves as a role model for commitment, process expertise, and leadership, instilling these values within the team.
This position is integral to the restaurant’s progress and overall growth, requiring a proactive leader who can balance staff management with operational oversight. The AGM is responsible for scheduling staff, conducting performance evaluations, and managing disciplinary actions in line with restaurant policies while maintaining a positive and motivating work environment. An essential component of the role is ensuring compliance with all health, safety, food handling, hygiene, and alcoholic beverage regulations. Moreover, the AGM is tasked with managing inventory, estimating costs, overseeing purchases, and maintaining accurate sales and cash records.
Daily inspections of the restaurant and equipment fall under the AGM’s duties to guarantee the establishment meets all regulatory standards. This role also involves preparing and submitting operational reports to company leadership, highlighting key performance metrics and identifying opportunities for improvement. The ideal candidate is a results-driven, adaptable leader who fosters a positive culture, motivates the team with energy and inspiration, and continually seeks innovative ways to improve sales and manage costs effectively. This position offers a unique chance to contribute meaningfully to a growing, family-oriented hospitality group recognized for its excellence and authentic culinary experiences.
