Job Description
Sonesta International Hotels is the 8th largest hotel company in the United States and is experiencing rapid growth. The company boasts a diverse portfolio of full-service and focused hotels spread across major cities, including more than 1000 properties in eight countries, with a constantly expanding footprint. Sonesta's unique collection includes owned, managed, and franchised properties, positioning it as a prominent player in the hospitality industry. The company prides itself on delivering exceptional service driven by the human side of hospitality, focusing on passion, loyalty, and creating meaningful experiences for every guest and associate.
The Assistant General Manager (AGM) position at Sonesta is a pivotal role that works closely with the General Manager to ensure the success and smooth operation of the hotel. This position requires strategic collaboration with multiple departments such as marketing, revenue management, sales, accounting, facilities, human resources, and IT to meet the hotel's performance objectives. The AGM's responsibilities are broad and cover revenue generation, cost control, guest and employee satisfaction, and ensuring high standards of product and service quality. The role demands a strong leadership presence that inspires and guides hotel associates while maintaining strict adherence to Sonesta’s G.U.E.S.T. standards.
The AGM will actively participate in direct sales efforts and collaborate with the hotel’s Director of Sales and regional sales teams to devise and implement sales and marketing strategies that capture a fair market share. Revenue management is a key focus, involving adjusting occupancy rates and pricing strategies using reservations and property management systems to maximize profitability. The AGM plays a critical role in managing front office, housekeeping, and food and beverage operations, ensuring that all areas of the hotel run efficiently and meet guest expectations.
Beyond operational responsibilities, the AGM oversees the hotel's physical condition, maintenance scheduling, and preventive upkeep in conjunction with facilities management. This includes budget development and financial oversight in partnership with the finance and general ledger teams to monitor expenditures and address any financial variances promptly. Compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including health, safety, and alcohol service laws, is strictly enforced by the AGM.
This leadership position also involves human resources collaboration to manage recruiting, training, performance management, and benefits administration, ensuring staff are motivated and well-supported. Additionally, the AGM is responsible for managing IT resources and procurement processes, ensuring the hotel uses technology effectively and optimizes purchasing to control costs. The role demands a flexible schedule, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays, and requires a candidate prepared to be the on-duty manager when necessary. The position offers a competitive pay range reflecting the demanding nature of the role and the importance of leadership within Sonesta hotels.
