Job Description
Border Foods started as a vision shared by two brothers who dreamed of opening a Mexican restaurant. Over time, this humble idea transformed into one of the largest privately held Taco Bell franchisees in America. As a company, Border Foods embodies a people-first approach, fostering a supportive and family-oriented atmosphere that values every team member from cooks and cashiers to restaurant managers and beyond. With a strong emphasis on Core Values like Accountability, Integrity, Family, Excellence, Teamwork, and Empowerment, Border Foods diligently works to create environments where both employees and guests can thrive and have positive experiences.
The company’s dedication to its mission of improving lives has cultivated an incredible work culture that encourages continuous learning, growth, and career development opportunities. The organization also prioritizes employee well-being and supports educational advancement through various programs, including GED and tuition reimbursement, along with scholarship opportunities. Additionally, Border Foods offers competitive compensation with flexible scheduling and a robust bonus program where Assistant General Managers have the potential to earn up to $20,000 annually in bonuses. Medical, dental, and vision benefits are extended to all positions, even part-time roles, alongside paid vacation, sick leave, holiday pay, free food, and a vacation donation program, all of which underscore the company’s commitment to its team members.
The role of Assistant Manager at Border Foods is a vital leadership position aimed at reinforcing the company’s Core Values and enhancing the restaurant operations. The Assistant Manager is responsible for the entire restaurant’s success and must build and lead a strong team that consistently delivers great food and exceptional customer service. This position requires ensuring the restaurant operates smoothly, safely, and within all health, safety, and legal guidelines. Assistant Managers must maintain a welcoming and supportive environment, helping team members grow professionally and empowering them through guidance, training, and active coaching.
The Assistant Manager’s duties include creating strategic short- and long-term plans for the restaurant's success, interpreting financial data such as P&L statements to make sound business decisions, and managing labor, inventory, and waste effectively. This role also involves recruiting, hiring, orienting, and training new employees to maintain the high standards Border Foods is known for. Moreover, Assistant Managers uphold cash handling policies rigorously to minimize loss and ensure compliance with accounting and banking requirements. Equipped with a background in restaurant or retail experience, an Assistant Manager should possess the skills necessary to support team members, address challenges, motivate the workforce, and represent Border Foods with integrity in customer interactions.
This non-exempt management role expects a commitment of at least 50 hours per week and requires flexibility in work hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and occasionally holidays. Certification such as ServeSafe, a valid driver’s license with insurance, and at least a high school diploma or equivalent are also necessary for this position. Physically, the job involves sitting, standing, bending, lifting, and moving intermittently throughout the workday.
Joining Border Foods as an Assistant Manager means becoming part of a growing family that is committed to making lives better through excellent food and outstanding service. This dynamic environment offers a chance to develop a fulfilling career path while enjoying comprehensive benefits and a rewarding workplace culture. Note that employment is with the franchisee, not Taco Bell Corp., and all wages and benefits are set by the independent business owner.
