Job Description

This hotel is owned and operated by an independent franchisee, Johnson Hospitality. Unlike being directly employed by Marriott International, Inc., this hotel operates as a separate entity with its own employment policies and practices. Johnson Hospitality holds full control over all aspects of employment which include hiring, firing, staff discipline, compensation, benefits, and other employment conditions. This creates a unique working environment where employees contribute to a locally managed but internationally recognized hospitality brand. Johnson Hospitality is committed to operational excellence, guest satisfaction, and creating an engaging workplace culture for its employees, aligning with the high standards expected within the hospitality industry.

The Assistant General Manager position plays a critical leadership role within the hotel’s broader operational framework. Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Assistant General Manager supports and oversees multiple departments including the front office, housekeeping, sales, and engineering. The position is charged with ensuring profit generation, surpassing budget expectations, and maintaining superior guest service and operational standards throughout the property. This leadership role demands a proactive and hands-on approach to managing hotel operations, initiating effective departmental communication and teamwork, resolving guest issues, and upholding brand service standards.

Key responsibilities of the Assistant General Manager include hiring, training, and motivating departmental teams, scheduling staff efficiently to meet forecast and budget needs, and assisting with financial responsibilities such as department forecasting and accounts receivable management. The Assistant General Manager ensures the alignment of all operations with brand initiatives, manages guest service requests and messaging platforms, monitors room availability and revenue maximization, and guarantees compliance with cash control and credit policies. Regular inspections across all departments ensure cleanliness, safety, and brand standard adherence. The role also involves fostering a strong employee morale and customer-focused culture, training and coaching staff, and leading human resource functions such as discipline, recruiting, and safety.

As a vital member of the management team, the Assistant General Manager is expected to be readily available including working weekends and participating in Manager on Duty programs. This role requires an individual who is highly organized, communicative, and approachable, with a commitment to excellence in guest service and operational leadership. Compensation for this role ranges from $70,000 to $77,000 annually, with employment benefits that include health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan with matching, paid time off, and employee discounts, ensuring a competitive and comprehensive employment package.

This position is ideal for experienced hospitality professionals seeking a dynamic leadership opportunity within a reputable branded hotel operated by a dedicated local franchisee. The role offers both challenges and rewards in managing multiple facets of hotel operations to deliver memorable guest experiences and drive business success. With a clear focus on team development, guest satisfaction, and operational compliance, the Assistant General Manager plays an essential role in sustaining the hotel’s quality and brand reputation over time.
