Job Description
Border Foods began as a dream shared by two brothers to open a Mexican restaurant and has since evolved into one of the largest privately held Taco Bell franchisees in the United States. With a strong emphasis on a people-first mantra, Border Foods values every team member equally—from cooks and cashiers to restaurant managers and beyond. The company is headquartered in the heart of America and prides itself on fostering a collaborative, supportive, and growth-oriented workplace culture. Employees at Border Foods are welcomed into a family-like environment where learning, evolution, and the opportunity to shape the future are part of the daily experience. The organization's core values—Accountability, Integrity, Family, Excellence, Teamwork, and Empowerment—are not just words but actions embraced at every level to ensure the highest standards in every restaurant.
The role of Assistant Manager at Border Foods is vital in reinforcing these Core Values and advancing the company mission of making lives better. As an integral component of the team, the Assistant Manager is responsible for the comprehensive operation of the entire restaurant. This requires building and maintaining strong, motivated teams who provide consistently excellent food and service experiences to customers. In this leadership position, the Assistant Manager oversees scheduling, employee development, health and safety compliance, and customer relations, ensuring every guest encounter is welcoming and positive. The company supports its employees by providing flexible scheduling, competitive compensation, and a rewarding bonus program that allows Assistant General Managers to earn up to an additional $20,000 annually.
Beyond day-to-day operational duties, Assistant Managers play a key role in strategic planning. They manage financial metrics including profit and loss, inventory, and labor control, make hiring decisions, oversee training and new hire orientation, and uphold cash handling policies. This role requires strong interpersonal skills, the ability to navigate and resolve employee and customer issues, and a commitment to creating a safe, inclusive workplace. Border Foods values empowerment and professional development, offering education programs such as GED and tuition reimbursement, scholarships, and comprehensive medical, dental, and vision benefits—even for part-time employees. Additional perks include free food, paid vacation, sick leave, holiday pay, and a vacation donation program, all supported by an incredible culture that supports career advancement and growth.
This position is based in Newport, MN, and offers an hourly wage range from $14 to $35, reflecting responsibilities and experience. Border Foods is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer, actively promoting diversity and inclusivity within its workforce. Prospective employees should note that this position is with a franchisee of Taco Bell, operating independently from Taco Bell Corp. or its affiliates. The role requires commitment to work a minimum of 50 hours weekly, availability for early mornings, evenings, weekends, and some holidays, as well as meeting certain physical demands. Assistant Managers also need to be ServeSafe Certified to ensure food safety standards are met.
Joining Border Foods means becoming part of a family dedicated to making a difference in employees' lives and the lives of their guests, a role where leadership is valued, and growth opportunities are abundant.
