Job Description

Border Foods is one of the largest privately held Taco Bell franchisees in America, originating from a simple idea between two brothers to open a Mexican restaurant. Over the years, Border Foods has grown into a prominent franchise operator recognized for its commitment to a people-first culture and exceptional guest experiences. With numerous locations across the country, Border Foods prides itself on embodying core company values such as Accountability, Integrity, Family, Excellence, Teamwork, and Empowerment. These values are integral to every level of the organization, from kitchen staff to restaurant managers, emphasizing a collaborative and supportive work environment that fosters growth, learning, and development.

The role of Assistant Manager at Border Foods is a vital leadership position focused on upholding these core values within the restaurant operation. Assistant Managers are responsible for managing the entire restaurant, ensuring that both employees and guests have positive and fulfilling experiences. This role involves building and leading a strong team to consistently provide customers with high-quality food and friendly service in a safe and welcoming setting. Beyond day-to-day management, the Assistant Manager plays a key role in strategic planning, financial management, staffing, and training initiatives in alignment with the company’s mission to make lives better.

The job offers flexible scheduling options and competitive pay rates ranging from $14 to $35 per hour, reflecting the importance Border Foods places on rewarding its dedicated team members. Further benefits include a robust bonus program where Assistant General Managers have the potential to earn up to an additional $20,000 annually. Employees can also take advantage of education programs such as GED and tuition reimbursement, along with scholarship opportunities to support continued growth. Medical, dental, and vision insurance plans are available to all employees, regardless of full-time or part-time status, which illustrates Border Foods’ commitment to comprehensive care. Additional perks include free meals, paid vacation time, sick leave, holiday pay, and a unique vacation donation program.

Assistant Managers at Border Foods are expected to implement and embody the company's core values in their daily work. This includes demonstrating accountability by ensuring operational standards are met, maintaining integrity through honest and ethical leadership, and fostering a family atmosphere by promoting teamwork and unity among staff members. The role requires effective communication skills to motivate team members, resolve conflicts, and handle customer issues with sincerity and professionalism.

Strategic and operational skills are essential, as Assistant Managers must manage profits by interpreting financial reports such as the profit and loss statement, make staffing decisions, and oversee training programs tailored for each new employee. Loss minimization through strict cash handling policies, inventory control, and waste management is also part of the responsibilities. Empowerment of team members is encouraged by offering continuous learning opportunities, coaching, and guidance to help individuals reach their full potential. The Assistant Manager position demands a hands-on approach to leadership and the capacity to foster both a productive and enjoyable workplace.

This position requires a minimum of one year of restaurant or retail experience, including exposure to sales growth, financial management, recruiting, and training. Assistant Managers are expected to be ServeSafe certified, hold a valid driver’s license and insurance, and have at least a high school diploma or equivalent. The role includes working varied shifts, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays, with an average workweek of at least 50 hours. Physical demands include the ability to sit, stand, bend, lift, and move intermittently throughout the workday, with accommodations available as needed. Border Foods is committed to diversity and inclusion, welcoming applicants from all backgrounds and ensuring equal opportunity in employment. Prospective candidates should note that employment is with the franchisee of Taco Bell, not Taco Bell Corporation or its affiliates, and compensation and benefits are determined independently by Border Foods.
