Job Description

Border Foods started as a simple yet ambitious idea between two brothers to open a Mexican restaurant and has since evolved into one of the largest privately held Taco Bell franchisees in the United States. With a strong commitment to a people-first philosophy, Border Foods values the contributions of every team member, ranging from cooks and cashiers to restaurant managers and beyond. The company takes pride in fostering an inclusive and supportive work environment that embraces its core values: Accountability, Integrity, Family, Excellence, Teamwork, and Empowerment. The organization operates with a family-oriented culture that encourages continuous learning, development, and career advancement. Joining Border Foods means becoming part of a family where employees are empowered to grow personally and professionally while contributing to the mission of making lives better for both employees and customers alike.

As an Assistant Manager at Border Foods, your primary mission is to uphold and reinforce the Border Foods CORE values across all aspects of restaurant operations. You will play a pivotal role in delivering exceptional customer service and building a strong, cohesive team that consistently provides great food and a friendly experience to customers. This position offers flexible scheduling, making it an ideal opportunity for individuals seeking work-life balance. Assistant Managers have the chance to earn top pay in the industry, with potential bonuses of up to an additional $20,000 annually based on performance. Border Foods also offers education programs such as GED and tuition reimbursement, scholarship opportunities, and a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance available even to part-time employees. Additional perks include free food, paid vacation time, sick and holiday pay, and an innovative vacation donation program encouraging a positive and supportive workplace culture.

In the Assistant Manager role, you will be accountable for leading shifts and guiding team members and shift leaders to ensure all tasks are completed efficiently while maintaining high standards for food safety and quality. You will ensure that customers experience fast, friendly service by properly scheduling and deploying team members and monitoring their performance rigorously against established standards. Compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations is mandatory to maintain the overall safety and operational integrity of the restaurant.

Beyond operational leadership, this role requires you to foster teamwork and a sense of family within the restaurant. You will resolve employee issues in a timely and effective manner, create a safe and welcoming environment for both staff and customers, and promote a culture of recognition and positive reinforcement. Your leadership will help navigate challenging situations with empathy and professionalism, always representing Border Foods with integrity and a sincere desire to find solutions for customers and employees.

The Assistant Manager position also includes strategic planning responsibilities. You will develop short- and long-term strategies to ensure the restaurant's success by utilizing and interpreting profit and loss statements to make appropriate financial adjustments. This role involves sourcing, hiring, and training new team members and minimizing loss by enforcing cash handling policies and accounting requirements. Efficient labor control, inventory management, and waste reduction are also essential aspects of this role.

Empowering your team members is fundamental. You will provide ongoing learning and development opportunities, offer guidance, and demonstrate active coaching. Helping to build the team’s capabilities ensures that the restaurant operates smoothly and continues to exceed customer expectations.

Candidates for this position should have at least one year of restaurant or retail experience, or equivalent education combined with experience. A proven record of successful hiring and retention, knowledge of sales building, P&L statements, recruiting, and training is highly beneficial. Candidates must be at least 18 years old and possess ServeSafe certification, a valid driver’s license, vehicle insurance, and a high school diploma or equivalent. The role requires flexibility, including availability to work mornings, evenings, late nights, weekends, and some holidays as the schedule demands. The physical requirements include sitting, standing, bending, lifting, and moving intermittently during working hours, with accommodations possible.

Border Foods is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer, embracing diversity and inclusion across all dimensions of its workforce. As a franchisee of Taco Bell, Border Foods operates independently from Taco Bell Corp., setting its own wage and benefit standards.
