The Assistant General Manager (AGM) position at ESA Management is a pivotal role, assisting the General Manager or Multi-Unit General Manager in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the hotel. This position is designed to ensure optimal performance in various operational areas while fostering an exceptional environment for both guests and associates. The AGM is hands-on, actively managing hourly staff including scheduling, overseeing daily activities, training, and leading with a commitment to create a positive workplace culture. Key responsibilities include ensuring compliance with company standards, especially regarding safety and security, driving initiatives that increase revenue and improve guest and associate satisfaction, and providing excellent guest service by resolving issues promptly and professionally. The role also involves active participation in budget control, labor monitoring, and inventory management.

In addition to operational management, the AGM serves as a leader who promotes teamwork, energy, enthusiasm, and associate recognition, essential for maintaining morale and performance. The position requires a proactive approach to managing daily tasks such as inspecting guest rooms, overseeing guest readiness, handling the purchase order process, supporting cash management, and engaging in sales activities. The AGM also acts as the manager on duty in the absence of the GM, ensuring seamless hotel operations at all times.

Job Requirements

  • Comprehend fundamental instructions, write short correspondence and memos
  • Solid fluency English skills for effective communication with guests, associates and vendors
  • Ability to operate property management system technology including shift reports and audit functions
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical operations
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed instructions
  • Supervisory skills to oversee daily activities of 8 to 15 hourly staff
  • Ability to organize multiple priorities for peak operational efficiency
  • Prior hotel experience in hospitality or retail
  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership ability desired
  • Ability to occasionally bend, kneel, crouch and lift up to 25 pounds
  • Willingness to work in various environmental conditions including outdoors, wet or humid environments
  • Ability to travel within reasonable geography to cover additional locations

Job Qualifications

  • Prior hotel experience in a hospitality or retail establishment
  • High school diploma or GED, or equivalent education and experience
  • Some job-related college level courses preferred
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership ability desired
  • Solid fluency in English including reading, writing and verbal communication
  • Ability to operate property management system technology
  • Strong supervisory and organizational skills

Job Duties

  • Demonstrates and promotes 100% commitment to providing the best possible experience for our guests
  • Become trained in all managerial functions and operations at the hotel level
  • Ensures all associates are properly onboarded, trained and complete ESU required training timely
  • Promotes compliance with company policies and safety and security procedures
  • Drives compliance with policies, rules, and standards including safety and security guidelines at the property level
  • Ensures associates drive company initiatives to increase revenue, lower costs and increase guest and associate satisfaction
  • Serves as first level management contact for guest service issues and resolves guest issues promptly
  • Assists in maximizing revenues and flow through to GOP to meet or exceed budgeted EBITDA
  • Assists in interviewing, onboarding and training new associates
  • Enhances positive work environment through direct supervision and involvement with hourly staff
  • Participates in daily team meetings and fosters continuous improvement
  • Aids budgetary control including labor monitoring, scheduling and expense control
  • Inspects guest rooms and ensures rooms are guest ready
  • Manages purchase order process, ordering and receiving products timely
  • Supports cash management and compliance
  • Assists with hotel sales activities including lead generation
  • Monitors social media for timely and appropriate responses
  • Provides back-up support across multiple hotel functions as needed
  • Acts as manager on duty in absence of GM
