Job Description

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is a premier federal research facility located in Bethesda, Maryland, recognized globally for its groundbreaking medical research and clinical care. As part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, NIH plays an essential role in advancing knowledge and improving the health of people around the world through clinical research and collaborative science. The NIH Clinical Center, also known as Building 10, is one of the largest clinical research hospitals globally and provides a unique environment for patients, researchers, and healthcare professionals to work together to pioneer new treatments and therapies. This hiring announcement is specifically for a government contract position at NIH and is intended exclusively for contract incumbent onboarding. All qualified NIH employees wishing to transition or continue within this contract must apply online through a thorough electronic process. The onboarding process underscores NIH's commitment to efficiency, compliance, and maintaining the highest standards in managing critical operational roles.

The Assistant Executive Housekeeper (AEH) is a critical supervisory role within the Environmental Services (EVS) and Linen Distribution departments at NIH. Serving as the primary on-site manager during the Executive Housekeeper's absence, the AEH ensures that day-to-day operations within the NIH Clinical Center and associated campus facilities run seamlessly. This position demands an individual who can independently manage the full range of responsibilities typically held by the Executive Housekeeper, including maintaining quality control, enforcing compliance with federal healthcare cleaning protocols, and supporting operational continuity across all shifts and locations.

The AEH is instrumental in upholding rigorous cleaning and infection control standards aligned with The Joint Commission (TJC) Environment of Care, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and NIH-specific regulations. Beyond oversight, the AEH actively participates in the onboarding, training, and professional development of EVS and linen handling personnel, ensuring that all staff meet performance expectations and comply with health, safety, and privacy guidelines such as HIPAA. With strong leadership abilities, outstanding communication skills, and proficiency in relevant technologies like Microsoft Office and EVS management systems, the AEH bridges operational needs with contract compliance, creating a reliable, responsive service environment.

Salary for this position is commensurate with experience and adheres to applicable wage determinations under federal contracting rules. Teya and its subsidiaries provide a competitive benefits package including federal employee health insurance, paid time off, dental and vision coverage, 401(k) retirement plans with employer matching, short-term disability, life insurance including AD&D coverage, and eleven paid holidays annually. Furthermore, NIH supports career advancement and training opportunities, fostering a workplace culture committed to employee growth and excellence.

Candidates in this role must exhibit comprehensive knowledge of medical and environmental cleaning standards, demonstrated through certifications such as the Certified Environmental Services Executive (CESE) or equivalent credentials. Experience is required in healthcare environmental services within medical treatment or research hospital settings—preferences given to those with federal or NIH experience. The AEH must be physically capable of extensive walking, bending, and other required tasks while maintaining vigilance throughout a demanding 24/7 operational schedule that includes evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Overall, the AEH is a pivotal position within NIH’s EVS and Linen Distribution teams. This role guarantees the cleanliness, safety, and operational efficiency necessary for a leading biomedical research institution dedicated to patient care, scientific discovery, and public health. The position upholds NIH’s high standards for infection control, emergency responsiveness, and contract adherence, ensuring an outstanding service experience for all facility users.
