The role of Assistant Event Operations Manager at the Stockton Complex is a pivotal position within the Event Operations team. This full-time role offers an annual salary of $72,000 along with a competitive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, paid vacation, and a 401(k) retirement plan. The Assistant Event Operations Manager works under general supervision yet carries a substantial responsibility for coordinating all event-related preparations and ensuring flawless execution during event days. Acting as the key liaison between the facility and its clients, this manager facilitates client requirements while enforcing facility policies, regulations, and safety standards. Among the many critical duties, the incumbent will oversee the comprehensive operations of the facility, including front- and back-of-house functions, preventive maintenance schedules, third-party vendor coordination, staffing logistics, and venue setup and tear-down operations across multiple venues within the Stockton Complex.
Additionally, this role entails hiring, training, and supervising a varied workforce comprising full-time, part-time, and temporary staff. The Assistant Event Operations Manager supports the Operations Manager and Director by guiding and scheduling operations across several departments including technical services, event services with a focus on ADA compliance, public safety, security, and custodial services. Coordination is also required with various building departments and show-specific contractors to ensure operational coherence and efficiency.
The position demands an anticipatory approach to problem solving with keen ability to investigate and resolve operational issues or client complaints promptly. Effective communication skills are paramount, as this role involves issuing clear directives to multiple departments and ensuring all parties have the pertinent information needed for optimal use of facility resources and staffing. The Assistant Event Operations Manager also handles administrative responsibilities such as inputting purchase requisitions and maintaining the Master Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) log to comply with safety regulations. Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university and two (2) years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Possess knowledge of the principles of facility management, building operations, maintenance, practices, and safety requirements
- Coordinate and satisfy the requirements of multiple events occurring simultaneously
- Respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community
- Engage in decisions related to crowd management in a prompt and decisive manner during crisis situations
- Work independently, exercising judgment and initiative and effectively under pressure and/or working stringent schedule and produce accurate results
- Maintain an effective working relationship with clients, employees, exhibitors, patrons, and others encountered in the course of employment
- Be licensed to operate a motor vehicle in the United States
Job Qualifications
- Possess knowledge of the principles of facility management, building operations, maintenance, practices, and safety requirements
- Coordinate and satisfy the requirements of multiple events occurring simultaneously
- Respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community
- Engage in decisions related to crowd management in a prompt and decisive manner during crisis situations
- Work independently, exercising judgment and initiative and effectively under pressure and/or working stringent schedule and produce accurate results
- Maintain an effective working relationship with clients, employees, exhibitors, patrons, and others encountered in the course of employment
- Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
- Organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines
- Follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively with others in both oral and written form
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university and two (2) years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- CAD and Adobe Illustrator experience preferred
- Remain flexible and adjust to situations as they occur
- Good written, verbal and computer skills
- Work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work long and irregular hours that may vary due to functions and may include day, evening, weekends, and holidays
- Operate standard office equipment and personal computer(s) using Outlook, MS Windows, Excel, MS Word, PowerPoint, and scheduling software (ABI Mastermind)
- Be licensed to operate a motor vehicle in the United States
Job Duties
- Manage all aspects of facility operations: front and back-of-house, preventive maintenance, third-party contracting, staffing, venue setup/tear-down at all Stockton Complex Venues
- Hire, train and supervise full-time, part-time and temporary staff
- Assist the Operations Manager and director in directing, supervising and scheduling all aspects of operations, including buildings, technical services, event services including ADA compliance, public safety, security, and custodial services
- Coordinate the operations activities with other building departments and show-related contractors
- Implement facility rules, regulation policies and procedures
- Anticipate problems and appropriate solutions, investigate, analyze and resolve operational problems and complaints
- Provide clear, concise, and timely communication of directives to other departments
- Ensure that operations department receives pertinent information for most effective use of the facility and staffing
- Assure facility readiness and smooth operation of events
- Input purchase requisitions
- Responsible for the Master MSDS log in the building
- Other duties as assigned
