Job Description

The Reno-Sparks Indian Colony (RSIC) is a federally recognized tribal government committed to the economic and social advancement of its people. Established in the early 1900s and formally recognized under the Indian Reorganization Act of 1934, RSIC represents over 1,100 members of the Paiute, Shoshone, and Washoe Tribes — Three Tribes, One Nation. The Colony encompasses land in two primary sites: a 28-acre urban area in central west Reno and a larger 1,920-acre community in Hungry Valley, located 19 miles north in Nevada's Eagle Canyon region. RSIC is a vibrant, modern organization that honors traditional cultural values while embracing innovation, governance, and professional business practices. The organization employs over 300 people, including more than 150 tribal members, fostering a supportive and encouraging work environment focused on motivation, talent development, and career growth. RSIC’s mission is centered on serving the community with integrity, fiscal responsibility, and a commitment to health, prosperity, and cultural preservation. Their vision promotes a strong, healthy community where individuals and families thrive emotionally, physically, and spiritually, establishing a foundation for lasting well-being and success.

The Full-Time Assistant Emergency Manager position at the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony offers an impactful opportunity to support community safety and emergency resilience through vital technical and administrative duties. This onsite role is essential in assisting the Emergency Manager with emergency mitigation efforts, response planning, emergency training, and recovery implementation strategies. By taking an active role in training RSIC staff, Law Enforcement Planning Committee (LEPC), and the wider community on disaster preparedness and emergency response, the Assistant Emergency Manager ensures the colony remains ready in crisis situations. The position involves stepping in as acting Emergency Manager during absences, requiring confidence and leadership to manage emergencies effectively and uphold safety standards. With a pay range of $20.05 to $24.66 per hour, depending on experience, candidates are rewarded competitively for their dedication and skill in safeguarding the community.

This role requires a blend of strong communication, interpersonal skills, and technical acumen including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite programs like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Responsibilities extend from administrative support to hands-on training development, fostering collaboration among employees and community members alike. The Assistant Emergency Manager plays a pivotal role in building a prepared, resilient community, aligning with RSIC’s core values of integrity and customer focus. The position offers comprehensive benefits including Medical, Dental, Vision, 401(k), Life Insurance, and Paid Time Off, making it a rewarding career choice in a traditional yet forward-looking tribal government setting. This is an ideal role for individuals passionate about emergency management, community service, and cultural preservation who seek a meaningful position where their efforts directly contribute to the safety and prosperity of the RSIC members and the surrounding region.
