The Assistant Director of Student Engagement & Belonging plays a crucial role within the Student Engagement and Leadership department, focusing on strategic leadership and program management that cultivates a fulfilling and inclusive campus experience.

The Assistant Director of Student Engagement & Belonging is responsible for creating and managing initiatives that encourage student participation in leadership, service, and co-curricular activities, which are essential to developing a strong sense of community and belonging on campus. This role requires visionary leadership in planning and executing a broad spectrum of events—including campus traditions, leadership development sessions, community service projects, and large-scale activities such as Homecoming and Welcome Week. The position also involves direct supervision of student consultants as well as a larger volunteer base engaged in event planning and facilitation. The Assistant Director collaborates with various campus partners to align events and programs with the university’s goals related to retention and student success. This role demands a mix of administrative prowess, strong organizational skills, and the ability to assess and refine programs using best practice methodologies. Additionally, the position requires involvement in marketing and promotional efforts to maximize student engagement and the holistic growth of the student body. Night and weekend work may be necessary to ensure events run smoothly. Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or combination of education and experience
  • four years of professional experience in management of Student Activities programs

Job Duties

  • Conducts planning, organizing, and executing events on various scales and types (campus traditions, leadership development, community service, etc.)
  • coordinates logistics, manages budgets, secures venues, negotiates contracts, handles risk management, curriculum development, marketing, assessment, and overall smooth event operations
  • directly supervises approximately 5 Student Consultants and 25-75 student volunteers
  • creates, maintains, and promotes programming and activities calendar focusing on student organization engagement opportunities
  • collaborates with academic leaders for cross-divisional and cross-institutional student learning outcomes
  • engages in marketing and promotional efforts
  • conducts assessments to implement best practice methods for event planning, membership development, leadership curriculum, service opportunities, recruitment, budget development, and program effectiveness
  • handles email communication, phone calls, and other inquiries related to student activities and leadership development
  • works nights and weekends as needed
  • maintains 100% compliance with required System, University, and job-specific online training courses
  • performs other duties as assigned.
