One of its prestigious luxury brands, JW Marriott, maintains a fundamental philosophy that prioritizes the happiness and well-being of its associates, understanding that their satisfaction directly influences guest experiences. JW Marriott operates over 100 properties located in gateway cities and unique resort destinations worldwide, delivering luxury accommodations combined with heartfelt, thoughtful service rooted in the legacy of J. Willard Marriott, the company founder.
The JW Marriott brand is dedicated to fostering a workplace where associates feel valued and empowered to pursue their passions in a supportive environment. This includes extensive training and development opportunities, recognition programs, and a focus on holistic well-being. As part of Marriott International, JW Marriott associates benefit from being part of a global community, offering collaboration and camaraderie among diverse teams and a culture of inclusivity and equal opportunity.
This position is for an Assistant Director of Group Sales at the JW Marriott property located at 101 Bowie Street, San Antonio, Texas. The role is full-time, onsite, and categorized under management within the sales and marketing division. The role offers an annual salary ranging from $118,000 to $154,200 and includes eligibility for bonuses along with relocation assistance.
The Assistant Director of Group Sales functions as the assistant sales leader responsible for driving the property’s group sales efforts, focusing on specific group business while managing a team of on-property group sales associates. This leadership position works closely with the Director of Sales and Marketing and the Director of Group Sales to implement brand strategies and achieve ambitious group revenue goals. The successful candidate will oversee daily operations of a sales team including Senior Sales Executives and administrative staff, focusing on building long-term, value-oriented customer relationships and maximizing revenue through up-selling and accurate forecasting.
The role requires expertise in managing incoming group and catering opportunities, conducting contract negotiations, closing business deals, and ensuring seamless coordination between sales and operational teams to uphold Marriott’s high service standards. Key responsibilities also include participation in strategic leadership teams, executing brand initiatives such as Closing Day and Critical Control Points, and contributing to hotel business plans and market strategies.
Additionally, the Assistant Director of Group Sales acts as the onsite group sales liaison, supports corporate and regional brand requests, and is instrumental in resolving customer and contract issues. The position emphasizes delivering exemplary customer service to enhance guest satisfaction and loyalty, understanding the hotel’s target clientele, and tailoring sales approaches to meet their needs.
Ideal candidates must have a blend of educational achievements and practical experience—either a 2-year degree with 4 years of relevant experience or a 4-year bachelor’s degree with at least 2 years in sales and marketing or a related field. Preferred candidates will have demonstrated supervisory skills and experience in group sales, enhancing their ability to lead effectively and achieve revenue targets.
This opportunity at JW Marriott offers a unique career path in luxury hospitality, where passion meets purpose. Associates here enjoy not just a job but a career that nurtures growth, belonging, and the best version of themselves. By joining JW Marriott, candidates become part of an extraordinary global team dedicated to the highest standards of hospitality and guest service excellence.
