Job Description

Sonesta International Hotels stands as the 8th largest hotel company in the United States and continues to expand rapidly with an impressive portfolio that spans over 1000 properties across eight countries. This distinguished hospitality company offers an extraordinary variety of full-service and focused-service hotels situated in major cities, establishing a significant presence wherever travelers desire to be. Sonesta's unique blend of owned, managed, and franchised properties demonstrates its dynamic and inclusive approach to hospitality, making it a favored choice for guests seeking exceptional service and memorable experiences. At its core, Sonesta is driven by the human side of hospitality — delivering service with passion, loyalty with purpose, and experiences that genuinely connect with every guest across its wide-reaching locations. The company's values emphasize teamwork, quality service, commitment to employees, and continuous growth, which are deeply embedded in its operational philosophy.

In this exciting opportunity, Sonesta International Hotels is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to lead its accounting team within a centralized accounting environment. This role is pivotal in managing professional accounting duties that ensure meticulous control over the hotel’s expenses, income, assets, and liabilities, providing security to the company’s valuable assets. Reporting lines include collaborating closely with the Director of Finance to assist in budgeting, strategic planning, and goal-setting. The Accounting Manager plays a vital role in the month-end closing process by inputting and reconciling all income, preparing detailed reports, verifying trial balances, and running financial statements for management review. This position demands a high level of organizational skill to manage daily accounting operations and staff assignments effectively, ensuring all activities align with generally accepted accounting principles and internal standards.

The job encompasses a variety of operational and strategic responsibilities, including preparing tax reconciliations, payments, and filings that comply with all governmental regulations at the state, city, and federal levels. It also involves performing balance sheet and bank reconciliations and participating in monthly inventories and credit meetings. The Accounting Manager will oversee accounts payable and receivable functions, ensuring accuracy in billing, daily income reporting, and management of accommodation deposits. They are expected to produce frequent financial reports in line with a structured reporting calendar and contribute to financial forecasting and special projects as required.

Strategically, the role builds bridges with other departments such as Catering, Sales, Reservations, and Front Office to foster teamwork and quality service. The manager will audit payroll, supervise the accounting department in the absence of the Director of Finance, handle interactions with guests and regulatory agencies to resolve billing disputes and ensure compliance, and ensure the accounting staff is properly trained and equipped. This leadership position demands a passion for hospitality, excellence, and integrity, providing inspiration to the team while prioritizing the mission and wellbeing of the hotel and company. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, demonstrates strong communication and supervisory skills, and leads by example to foster a respectful and trusting workplace culture.

Sonesta International Hotels offers competitive pay reflective of the candidate’s expertise and tenure, complemented by a comprehensive benefits package aimed at supporting employee health and financial security. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, a health savings account with company match, a 401(k) retirement plan with company match, paid vacation and sick days, hotel discounts, educational assistance, paid parental leave, company-paid life insurance, short and long-term disability insurance, and various employee perks and discounts.
