The role of Assistant Director of Finance at Hyatt Regency Minneapolis is a pivotal leadership position within the hotel's finance department. The position involves supporting the Director of Finance in managing the comprehensive financial operations of the hotel. This includes oversight of daily financial activities, ensuring accuracy in reporting, and adherence to internal controls and compliance protocols consistent with Hyatt's corporate standards. The Assistant Director of Finance actively participates in strategic financial planning, budget development, and the analysis of financial data to support decision-making processes that positively impact the hotel's profitability and efficiency.

Responsibilities of this role encompass the preparation and review of journal entries, month-end close processes, and financial reconciliations. The Assistant Director also plays a central role in presenting financial reports during monthly reviews and collaborating with department managers to manage expenses effectively. Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, hospitality, business or related field preferred
  • minimum 3 years of progressive finance experience
  • experience in hospitality or retail industry preferred
  • proven ability to supervise or direct staff
  • knowledge of POS systems such as Simphony or Infrasys
  • familiarity with PMS systems like Opera
  • understanding of Oracle, ADP/Enterprise, and Kronos platforms
  • strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
  • ability to manage complex financial operations and audits
  • commitment to maintaining internal controls and SOX compliance

Job Qualifications

  • 3 years or more of finance career progression
  • preferred experience in hospitality, retail, or related industry
  • degree in accounting, finance, hospitality, business or related field preferred
  • experience supervising or directing staff members
  • prior POS (Simphony, Infrasys), PMS (Opera), Oracle, ADP/Enterprise, Kronos expertise desired
  • clear and concise written and verbal communication skills in English
  • proficiency in Microsoft Office products

Job Duties

  • Prepare and review all journal entries, month-end reports, and reconciliations
  • review preliminary financial statements with Director of Finance
  • participate in monthly financial reviews and support Director of Finance with presentation of these reports
  • supervise Finance and Procurement staff and the Information Technology functions of the hotel including coaching and counseling associates to reflect Hyatt service standards and procedures, interviewing, training, and evaluating performance of staff
  • manage and help oversee hotel on and off-site accounting functions to ensure proper fiscal management, timely and accurate reporting, and analysis for the hotel including financial planning, budgeting, accounting, and cash management
  • systems administration, general ledger account reconciliations, budget preparations, inventories, monthly closings, and full profit and loss responsibility
  • assist with managing and ensuring SOX compliance by monitoring internal controls and implementing corrective measures as needed
  • manage the audit process by participating in and responding to auditor requests to ensure total hotel compliance
  • help prepare all monthly and annual financial statements, investigate, review, and analyze variance explanations involving department staff in this process
  • proactively manage troubleshooting for relevant cost controls and revenue enhancements
  • support Director of Finance with special reporting and ad hoc analysis
