Job Description

The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, is a prestigious flagship public research university known for its commitment to advancing knowledge, fostering creativity, and serving the community. Founded in 1794, UT Knoxville is the heart of a vibrant academic community with over 36,000 students and 9,000 faculty and staff members. Nestled in the scenic city of Knoxville, alongside the Tennessee River and near the Great Smoky Mountains, the university combines a rich tradition of service and academic excellence with a spirit of innovation and engagement that extends throughout the state and beyond. UT Knoxville is part of the larger University of Tennessee System, which includes campuses in Chattanooga, Pulaski, Martin, Memphis Health Science Center, the Institute of Agriculture, and the Institute for Public Service, all dedicated to enhancing education and research across Tennessee.

The College of Education, Health and Human Sciences (EHHS) at UT Knoxville plays a pivotal role in the university's $3 billion capital campaign, aiming to raise $65 million. This dynamic college serves a large and active alumni base of over 57,000 living graduates, offering a wide array of degree programs in fields such as education, counseling, leadership, public health, nutrition, kinesiology, sport studies, hospitality, and tourism. The college is renowned for its dedication to preparing future leaders and professionals who contribute positively to their communities.

The Assistant Director of Events and Stewardship position is integral to the College of Education, Health and Human Sciences' advancement efforts. This role is responsible for planning and executing high-visibility events that enhance the college's engagement with donors, alumni, and other key stakeholders. These events include donor recognition ceremonies, pregame football tailgates, meet-the-dean receptions across various cities, the annual Educators Hall of Honor recognition, advisory board meetings, and other crucial stakeholder activities. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with advancement teams, college leadership, and volunteers to build and innovate upon these event programs, ensuring each event strengthens relationships and fosters continued support for the college.

In addition to event management, the Assistant Director will oversee EHHS stewardship activities, coordinating efforts to acknowledge and thank donors through personalized communications such as endowment reports, thank you notes, and recognitions of significant life events like birthdays. This position requires meticulous attention to detail and the ability to develop and maintain consistent stewardship processes for philanthropic gifts. The role also involves tracking and managing individualized stewardship plans for the college's most significant donors, ensuring that each relationship receives the appropriate level of care and engagement to promote ongoing support.

This full-time position demands a motivated, organized professional with excellent project management skills and the ability to work independently within established guidelines. The target start date for this role is September 2026, offering a rewarding opportunity to contribute to a top educational institution's fundraising and engagement initiatives while supporting the mission of enhancing educational opportunities and health sciences research at UT Knoxville.
