Job Description

The California School Employees Association (CSEA) is a prominent organization representing over 250,000 classified school employees across 750 school districts throughout California. Known as the largest classified school employee union within the AFL-CIO, CSEA serves a vital role in supporting school employees who work as para-educators, administrators, food service workers, bus drivers, nurses, and skilled employees within grounds, maintenance, and operations sectors. CSEA is deeply committed to advocating for and enhancing the welfare of school employees, contributing positively to the educational environment and communities they serve. The association’s headquarters are located in San Jose, California, which serves as the focal point for many of its organizational activities and administrative functions.

The Assistant Director of Member Benefits is a pivotal position within CSEA, located at their San Jose headquarters. This role is responsible for coordinating the activities of the Member Benefits Department, which offers a wide range of services to the association's members. The Member Benefits Department's mission is to recruit new members while promoting various discount purchasing programs, merchandising initiatives, and e-commerce services that provide value and convenience to the association's broad membership base. The department also handles humanitarian assistance programs, provides insurance benefits including group insurance schemes, and offers retirement counseling to help members plan for their futures.

The Assistant Director acts as the project manager for all these initiatives. This includes strategic planning and coordination of the department’s work plans and goals, ensuring alignment with the overall objectives of CSEA. The role involves evaluating existing programs and services, identifying areas of innovation and improvement, and contributing forward-thinking ideas to continually enhance member benefits. Additionally, this position plays an integral role in planning large-scale events and arranging travel services for both members and staff, managing relationships with service providers and venues to secure optimal arrangements.

This is a high-impact leadership role that requires a combination of strategic thinking, project management skills, and a deep understanding of various industries including travel, insurance, merchandising, and event planning. The role requires effective communication and collaboration skills to work with internal teams, external vendors, and key stakeholders including the Executive Director, Association President, and the Board of Directors. The salary range for the Assistant Director of Member Benefits is $136,267 to $173,915, reflecting the seniority and responsibility of this position. Starting salaries typically begin at the first step but may be adjusted based on the candidate’s experience and qualifications. Employment with CSEA includes comprehensive benefits such as 19 paid holidays, four weeks of vacation, medical coverage for employees and their families, life insurance, a pension plan, and a 401(k) plan.

This exempt position offers a unique opportunity for individuals passionate about serving educational communities and enriching the benefits and services provided to school employees throughout California. Candidates are encouraged to apply by submitting their resume and cover letter online at the CSEA career website, detailing their suitability for the role. CSEA values diversity and inclusivity within its workforce and is proud to provide equal employment opportunities to all qualified applicants.
