As a leading university, Tulane emphasizes providing a well-rounded experience that integrates education, athletics, and student life. The university offers diverse programs and resources aimed at fostering student success, faculty achievement, and community engagement. Tulane's Athletic Department plays a vital role in enhancing campus life by supporting intercollegiate athletic programs and special events hosted on its facilities, maintaining a standard of excellence in both sports and event management.

The Assistant Director of Facilities & Event Management at Tulane University serves a critical role within the Athletic Department. Reporting directly to the Director of Facilities & Event Management, this position acts as the primary facilities operations point-of-contact for select athletic venues, ensuring their optimal maintenance, safety, and operational readiness. Alongside managing the physical upkeep, this role is fundamentally intertwined with event operations, specifically for multiple intercollegiate athletic programs and sporting events, positioning the Assistant Director as the key liaison for event management activities.

This role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, from overseeing maintenance aspects such as landscaping, grounds, IT systems, custodial services, concessions, and parking operations, to detailed event preparations including setup and breakdown. The Assistant Director is also actively involved in game-day operations, coordinating with various stakeholders including coaches, administrators, vendors, and security personnel to ensure a seamless event experience. The position requires strong organizational skills, leadership capability, and the ability to manage complex schedules and multiple priorities effectively.

Tulane University values candidates who demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, are self-motivated, and possess intrinsic leadership qualities. Proficiency in computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, and social media, is essential for managing communication and documentation related to facility and event operations. The Assistant Director must also be available to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, reflecting the nature of collegiate sports and events scheduling.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Administration or a closely related field, coupled with at least one year of experience in athletic facilities or event management. Current First Aid and CPR certifications are mandatory, underscoring the importance of safety and emergency preparedness. Knowledge of NCAA and American Conference rules and regulations is required to ensure compliance with athletic and university standards.

Preferred qualifications include a Master’s Degree and prior experience working at the NCAA Division I level, which would provide valuable insight into high-level athletic program operations. The Assistant Director will also play a role in NCAA compliance by closely monitoring departmental activities to maintain adherence to NCAA regulations, attending compliance seminars, and promptly reporting any potential violations.

This position is pivotal in managing various systems related to facility management such as access control, scheduling, budgeting, lighting, and scoring. Additionally, the Assistant Director will be responsible for supervising contracted and university staff during events to create a positive experience for fans and participants alike.

Tulane University is an equal opportunity employer committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace.
