Job Description
The Child Nutrition Department within the Conejo Valley Unified School District (CVUSD) is dedicated to providing high-quality, nutritious meals to students across all district schools. CVUSD is a comprehensive public school district committed to excellence in education, serving a diverse community with a strong emphasis on student health and wellbeing. The district's Child Nutrition program plays a vital role in supporting student success by ensuring access to balanced meals that meet federal, state, and local nutritional standards. CVUSD values professionalism, innovation, and community engagement in delivering its services.
The role of Assistant Director, Child Nutrition, is a critical leadership position within the department, assisting the Director in managing district-wide child nutrition services. This role involves overseeing daily operations, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations including federal programs such as the National School Lunch and Breakfast programs, and state health and safety codes. The position requires a hands-on approach to managing large-scale food production and distribution in a central kitchen setting, working collaboratively with satellite kitchen personnel, managers, school administrators, and other stakeholders.
An important aspect of this leadership role is developing and implementing operational and training policies, providing supervision and evaluation for assigned staff, and managing procurement and budgets to maintain cost-effective and high-quality nutrition programs. The Assistant Director must be adept at conducting site inspections to monitor food safety, sanitation, and service delivery while continuously striving to improve program effectiveness and compliance. This position commands significant autonomy, requiring strong independent judgment, strategic planning skills, and a thorough knowledge of food service management principles.
Candidates for this position will engage in a rigorous application and examination process, including a training and experience evaluation, a technical multiple-choice exam, and a structured oral interview designed to assess fitness for the role. With an 11- or 12-month employment schedule, the position offers competitive salary and comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, paid holidays, sick leave, vacation, and retirement benefits through PERS.
This role is ideal for experienced food service management professionals who possess strong leadership capabilities, a deep understanding of food safety regulations, and a commitment to fostering a positive and compliant child nutrition environment within a dynamic public school district.
