Assistant Director, Child Nutrition

The role of Assistant Director, Child Nutrition, is a critical leadership position within the department, assisting the Director in managing district-wide child nutrition services. This role involves overseeing daily operations, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations including federal programs such as the National School Lunch and Breakfast programs, and state health and safety codes. The position requires a hands-on approach to managing large-scale food production and distribution in a central kitchen setting, working collaboratively with satellite kitchen personnel, managers, school administrators, and other stakeholders.

An important aspect of this leadership role is developing and implementing operational and training policies, providing supervision and evaluation for assigned staff, and managing procurement and budgets to maintain cost-effective and high-quality nutrition programs. The Assistant Director must be adept at conducting site inspections to monitor food safety, sanitation, and service delivery while continuously striving to improve program effectiveness and compliance. This position commands significant autonomy, requiring strong independent judgment, strategic planning skills, and a thorough knowledge of food service management principles.
