Job Description

Occidental College, located in Los Angeles, California, is a highly regarded liberal arts college known for its commitment to academic excellence and fostering a diverse and inclusive community. Established with the goal of providing a rigorous educational experience combined with a focus on social justice, equity, and inclusion, Occidental offers a vibrant campus environment where students, faculty, and staff collaborate to promote learning and development. The institution emphasizes personalized education, holistic support services, and meaningful engagement through its various programs and initiatives. Occidental College caters to a broad range of students and is dedicated to ensuring that each visitor and prospective student receives a welcoming and informative experience during their visit.

The Assistant Director of Campus Visits and Events at Occidental College plays a pivotal role within the Admission: General department. Reporting directly to the Associate Dean of Admission, this full-time, exempt position is responsible for leading the strategic planning, coordination, and execution of on-campus and off-campus recruitment programs. This role is crucial for managing the daily campus visit experience for prospective students, admitted students, their families, and counselors throughout a comprehensive year-round recruitment cycle and across multiple admission rounds. The Assistant Director is charged with advancing a consistent, high-quality visitor experience that aligns with the college's enrollment goals and campus tour strategy.

The position involves overseeing the student tour guide program, including recruitment, training, scheduling, and performance management of student guides. Additionally, the Assistant Director will coordinate group visit logistics and communications effectively, ensuring seamless delivery of experiences. The role also contributes to the design and implementation of signature programming such as admitted student events, counselor engagement programs, and summer activities that enhance recruitment efforts and student engagement.

In collaboration with campus partners, external vendors, and the enrollment communications team, the Assistant Director ensures cohesive planning, messaging, and execution across all visit and event functions. Operational leadership of campus visit infrastructure is a key responsibility, including managing space reservations, calendar coordination, and centralized communication systems, which all contribute to a streamlined and high-standard service to visitors.

This position is primarily campus-based with some local travel requirements. It suits an emerging higher education professional who demonstrates strong communication skills, great attention to detail, and the ability to lead in a fast-paced, highly visible, and public-facing environment. The role requires the ability to handle multiple priorities, manage complex logistics, and cultivate positive relationships across diverse constituencies while supporting the college's mission and enrollment objectives.

The Assistant Director will be actively engaged in front-line customer service, providing essential operational and administrative support to the admission office. This includes managing shared communication channels, coordinating admission officer calendars, and overseeing event space scheduling and confirmations to maintain smooth admission operations.

Additional responsibilities include delivering campus information sessions, facilitating panels, and representing the admission office to visitors and stakeholders. The Assistant Director also supports the management of student workers, including the Senior Fellows program and the Admission Summer Internship Program, providing leadership and oversight to ensure effective training and meaningful engagement of participants.

With a competitive salary starting in the expected range of $70,304 per year and a generous benefits package, Occidental College offers a dynamic and rewarding work environment.
