The Assistant Dining Services Manager position at Harmony is a pivotal role overseeing all facets of food service operations for residents, staff, and guests. This role demands a hands-on manager who not only supports the Dining Services Director but also actively participates in the day-to-day preparation and oversight of meals, ensuring adherence to approved menus and recipes. Emphasis is placed on accommodating the unique dietary needs of residents while maintaining high standards of food quality, safety, and sanitation.

The successful candidate will assist in hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating food service staff, fostering a productive and positive work environment. They will maintain a comprehensive understanding of all departmental policies and procedures, ensuring proper use of food supplies and compliance with federal, state, and local health regulations. Attention to detail in food portioning, temperature checks, and equipment maintenance is critical to guarantee safety and satisfaction.

This role requires strong leadership skills to supervise dining staff, oversee kitchen cleanliness, participate in scheduled cleaning routines, and respond promptly to any food safety concerns. The Assistant Dining Services Manager will also be responsible for managing inventory, making menu substitutions when necessary, and maintaining budgetary controls related to food and supply costs.

Harmony values continuous learning and professional growth; therefore, the Assistant Dining Services Manager will participate in staff meetings and in-service training sessions, as well as support new associate training initiatives. Job Requirements

  • Must be Serv-Safe certified or be willing to become certified within 60 days of hiring
  • must have dining services experience in a management or leadership capacity
  • must have a working knowledge of ordering, storing, preparing and serving in a food service environment, preferably in a senior living community
  • must possess the ability to read, write, and make simple calculations
  • must be a quick learner and be able to effectively apply principles learned
  • must be able to follow verbal and written instructions
  • must be able to stand for long periods of time and withstand temperature extremes, wet and/or humid conditions and noise
  • must be able to lift 50 lbs on a regular basis or at least eight (8) times per shift
  • must be able to carry, pull or push heavy objects up to 20 feet
  • must be organized and able to work well with others as part of a team
  • must be in a designated uniform during working hours and maintain good personal hygiene and neat public appearance
  • must be willing to work a flexible schedule to include evenings, weekends, and holidays

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Maintains a working knowledge of all policies and procedures pertaining to the position, the department, and the personnel
  • supervises dining staff to ensure proper preparation of food in compliance with policies, and to ensure proper use of raw food and supplies
  • ensures that the food service area and all equipment exceeds sanitation requirements set forth by federal, state, and local health regulations and meets the community standards
  • maintains quality standards and stays within budget for food/supply costs
  • prepares and presents menu items according to standard recipes
  • maintains clean and orderly work area at all times, including floors/prep areas
  • participates in weekly cleaning routines planned by Dining Services Director
