Job Description

Restaurant Depot is a leading wholesale cash-and-carry foodservice distributor committed to providing customers with exceptional savings, an extensive selection of products, and unparalleled service every day of the week. Serving a targeted customer base that includes independent restaurants, caterers, and not-for-profit organizations, Restaurant Depot operates over 150 warehouses and distribution centers across 37 states. As a privately-owned, multi-billion-dollar company, it maintains a reputation for reliability and value, offering the right products at competitive prices in quantities that suit its customers' needs. This role is embedded within a dynamic environment where customer satisfaction and efficient operational execution are paramount.

The position of Assistant Deli Manager at Restaurant Depot is a full-time, hourly role involving 8-10 hour shifts with potential overtime. Reporting directly to the Deli Manager within the Deli Department, this role encompasses a critical blend of leadership, customer service, operational oversight, and team development. The Assistant Deli Manager’s primary focus is to ensure that deli products are readily available for sale while strictly adhering to freshness policies aligned with company standards and HACCP guidelines. This role is vital in promoting the company’s “Always Fresh” mentality, overseeing product presentation, rotation, labeling, and replenishment to maximize customer satisfaction and sales.

In this capacity, the Assistant Deli Manager champions teamwork and a safe shopping and working environment, fostering positive customer interactions through sincere, patient, and respectful communication. The role requires hands-on operation of warehouse equipment such as box cutters, knives, scales, compactors, hi-los, scooters, and scissor lifts, following OSHA and company safety protocols. By maintaining high cleanliness standards and executing department operating procedures meticulously, the Assistant Deli Manager plays a key role in sustaining the deli’s operational excellence.

Additionally, this position actively contributes to minimizing losses by monitoring product quality, managing inventory through cycle counts, and communicating shrink opportunities. The Assistant Deli Manager aids in the recruitment, hiring, and scheduling processes under the department manager’s direction, ensuring the deli team is optimized for both efficiency and growth. The role also involves assisting in other areas of the warehouse as needed, demonstrating flexibility and a team-oriented mindset.

Operational responsibilities include planning work duties effectively to accomplish assigned tasks within scheduled shifts, utilizing suggestive selling techniques to boost product sales, and consistently adhering to local, state, and federal laws as well as company guidelines. Food safety, workplace safety, and adherence to security policies are critical components of the role, ensuring that all activities promote compliance and risk mitigation.

This position offers a challenging and rewarding opportunity for individuals who are adept at managing warehouse operations, providing outstanding customer service, and leading a team in a fast-paced environment. Candidates who thrive in roles requiring physical stamina and a proactive approach to problem-solving will find this position particularly fulfilling. The Assistant Deli Manager is expected to work on concrete floors for extended periods, manage heavy lifting, and operate moving equipment in cold environments, emphasizing the physical demands tied to the job.

Overall, this role provides an exciting platform for professional growth within Restaurant Depot, supported by competitive benefits such as medical, vision, and dental insurance, a company-matched 401K, vacation and personal paid time off, and bonus opportunities. Individuals joining this team will contribute directly to enhancing customer experiences and sustaining the company’s commitment to quality and service excellence.
