The Assistant Cook position at T&T Supermarket plays a crucial role in supporting the Head Cook or their delegate in food preparation tasks at assigned stores or Central Kitchens. This position involves duties such as chopping, cutting, marinating, and peeling ingredients, ensuring the preparation aligns with established procedures and quality standards. The Assistant Cook is also responsible for inspecting incoming food products for quality and quantity, storing goods in appropriate conditions, and maintaining cleanliness and hygiene throughout the kitchen and food storage areas. Proper handling of kitchen utensils, containers, equipment, and maintaining sanitary conditions are vital responsibilities.

This role requires adherence to kitchen safety protocols and food safety standards, including accurate documentation of temperature records and implementing the FIFO (first in, first out) system to manage food inventory. The Assistant Cook ensures that recipes, ingredients, quantities, and cooking times follow standard operating procedures, supporting the consistency and quality of the food served.

Ideal candidates should have prior experience in preparing kitchen products such as BBQ, hot foods, dim sum, sushi, or other semi-finished products. They are expected to possess relevant knowledge of workplace health and safety practices and hold food safety certifications. Communication skills in English are necessary, and proficiency in Chinese languages like Cantonese or Mandarin is advantageous. Additionally, flexibility in working various shifts including weekdays, weekends, holidays, mornings, and evenings is required, along with basic computer skills for tasks including MS Office usage.

Job Requirements

Job Duties

  • Responsible for the storage of food, both incoming stock
  • Responsible for preparing ingredients before cooking, such as chopping vegetables, butchering meat, or cleaning seafood
  • Ensure proper receiving is done and food is stored in the appropriate conditions
  • Responsible for his or her own station, ensuring that all items are appropriately cleaned and ready for use before and after each shift
  • Ensure recipes, ingredient specifications, quantity, quality, cooking time as stated in the SOPs are being executed
  • Ensure the kitchen meets sanitation standards as set by the Head Cook and food safety
  • Ensure product quality, food safety, freshness and FIFO is strictly practiced within the department
  • Ensure that food is properly stored and always handled by ensuring all temperature records are properly completed
  • Responsible for the cleanliness, hygiene, equipment, and tools maintenance
  • ensure garbage, recycled materials and other disposable items are handled timely and properly
