Job Description

BJ's Wholesale Club is a leading membership-only warehouse club that operates throughout the United States with a mission to help families save money and time on the products they need most every day. Established as a prominent player in the wholesale retail sector, BJ's Wholesale Club serves millions of members by offering high-quality products at highly competitive prices, supported by excellent customer service and a commitment to operational excellence. The company boasts a workforce of over 30,000 dedicated team members who play a critical role in ensuring stores are stocked, problems are resolved promptly, and strategic goals are met, contributing directly to the overall health and success of each club location.

BJ's Wholesale Club emphasizes a culture of purpose and opportunity, inviting individuals to join a team that values meaningful work and career growth. The company provides a comprehensive benefits package designed to support employees' health, well-being, and future both on and off the job. Benefits such as weekly pay, free BJ's memberships, generous paid time off, flexible and affordable health plans, 401(k) retirement savings, and an employee stock purchase plan make it an attractive employer for those seeking stability and professional development opportunities in the retail sector.

The Assistant Club Manager in Training (AMIT) role at BJ's Wholesale Club is an exceptional leadership development opportunity for individuals striving to advance their careers in retail management. Working closely with the Club Manager, the AMIT provides leadership and direction within the club while driving performance in the departments they manage directly. This role is designed as a training and development position, preparing individuals for future Assistant Club Manager roles in Merchandising, Perishables, or Member Experience by delivering focused development aligned with their designated track. Responsibilities include ensuring consistent execution of policies and procedures, maintaining a positive member service experience, upholding Grand Opening Look Daily (GOLD) standards for club conditions, and providing overall leadership and direction within the club.

The AMIT position requires a balance of leadership, operational skills, and talent development. Key functions involve leading audit compliance efforts, collaborating with Business Partners, overseeing onboarding, certification, and training to ensure food safety and operational excellence, as well as serving as Manager on Duty (MOD) when needed. Candidates must hold a valid ServSafe Food Safety Certification and maintain it in good standing, with additional certifications potentially required depending on location, such as forklift operation and retail propane oversight in Florida.

Leadership qualities are essential for the AMIT, as the role demands strong business acumen, strategic thinking, effective communication, and the ability to build high-performing teams. The AMIT fosters a culture of growth, empowerment, and continuous learning, promoting trust, open communication, and conflict resolution to build an inclusive and respectful team environment. The role also emphasizes driving member satisfaction by upholding service excellence standards and creating a safe, collaborative workplace.

In addition to leadership, the AMIT is responsible for operational execution, including labor planning and scheduling, sales and inventory management, shrink control, and financial performance. The role requires using various tools and reporting systems to make informed decisions that meet or exceed operational goals. Compliance with food safety, sanitation, OSHA, and other regulatory standards is critical, and the AMIT leads related audits and initiatives to ensure all club departments meet rigorous standards.

The AMIT role is dynamic and involves supporting special projects, managing equipment and facility maintenance, and contributing cross-functionally across the club’s departments. The position demands regular, predictable attendance and a readiness to adapt to changing operational and business needs. Overall, the AMIT role at BJ’s Wholesale Club offers a robust foundation for aspiring retail leaders to develop comprehensive skills, make meaningful contributions, and grow within a respected and well-established retail organization. The starting salary for this role is $63,750, reflecting BJ's commitment to attracting skilled leaders who will drive the company’s continued success.
