Job Description

The State of New Hampshire's Department of Health and Human Services, specifically the Division for Children, Youth & Families, operates with a commitment to providing quality services and support to some of the state's most vulnerable populations. Within this division, the Sununu Youth Services Center (SYSC) serves as a residential facility dedicated to the care and rehabilitation of youth. SYSC strives to uphold the vision and mission of the agency through applying the Practice Model theories, beliefs, and principles in its daily operations, ensuring that youth receive the best possible environment for their development and well-being.

The SYSC is currently seeking a full-time Assistant Chef to join its food services team. This role is vital to the smooth operation of the center's kitchen, which supports the dietary needs of both residents and staff. The Assistant Chef will assist with managing various institutional food service functions including supervision of kitchen support staff, food preparation, and the ordering and delivery of food supplies. The position's hourly wage ranges from $15.93 to $20.80, reflecting the importance of this role and the experience required to fulfill it effectively.

As an Assistant Chef at SYSC, you will be responsible for ensuring the quality, safety, and timeliness of food service operations. This includes overseeing the preparation of meals according to established recipes and standards, managing inventory, and maintaining kitchen cleanliness and hygiene in compliance with industry regulations. The role also involves direct cooking duties such as cutting and trimming meats, baking, and preparing various food items. Moreover, the Assistant Chef will be expected to train, supervise, and evaluate kitchen staff, supporting their professional growth and ensuring high performance.

The position requires an individual who is detail-oriented, organized, and capable of communicating effectively with both supervisors and kitchen personnel. The Assistant Chef will play a key role in maintaining safety standards and reporting any workplace safety concerns. Additionally, the role demands adherence to hygiene protocols including wearing hairnets and following food industry standards to ensure the overall health and safety of those served by SYSC.

Opportunities for career advancement within this position are limited, with no current in-band or broad group level advancement options available. However, this role offers the chance to gain valuable experience within a respected government agency, participate in a wellness program, and enjoy comprehensive state employee benefits including health and dental insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.

The State of New Hampshire values diversity and is an equal opportunity employer, encouraging applications from qualified individuals who are passionate about public service and committed to making a difference in the lives of youth. For further information, interested applicants can contact Jennifer Allaire, Chef III, at the provided email and phone number.
