Job Description

This position is offered by an organization operating within the Army Non-Appropriated Funds (NAF) sector, a component dedicated to supporting military and civilian communities through various service-oriented roles. The Army NAF system manages and operates facilities and programs that provide a diverse range of services including recreational, hospitality, childcare, and food and beverage operations. The establishment focuses on maintaining efficiency and effectiveness in business activities while contributing to the overall mission of supporting military and civilian personnel and their families.

The role centers on the management of a high-volume beverage program within a large, full-service food and beverage operation. It involves significant responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the bar, including overseeing staff performance and ensuring that all operational standards meet health, safety, and organizational guidelines. Candidates for this role must bring a strong customer service orientation, extensive experience in beverage and restaurant service, and excellent organizational skills.

The successful candidate will function as a key member of the management team, tasked with supervising staff, training employees, scheduling shifts, and ensuring compliance with operating procedures. Additionally, the role entails monitoring financial reports, projecting costs, developing financial plans for activities, and managing procurement of supplies and equipment. Strategic efforts include evaluating program effectiveness based on profitability, customer satisfaction, and mission accomplishment, as well as recommending and enforcing operating procedures to optimize business success.

This position also requires the ability to identify operational issues and implement corrective measures efficiently. Staff supervision extends to managing unionized environments, which involves navigating the complexities of labor relations in a high-volume restaurant setting. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office and possess a background in managing cost controls to maintain budgetary requirements.

Employment conditions include a mandatory direct deposit setup, social security verification, satisfactory completion of employment verification and background checks, a possible probationary period, and availability to work varied shifts including weekdays, weekends, and holidays. Additionally, candidates must be willing to undergo a physical examination and possess the ability to obtain Tier 1 background investigation clearance.

The role is open to candidates residing in the local commuting area (Island of Oahu), with relocation at the candidate's expense if residing outside this area. Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is generally not authorized. Compensation is structured within a pay-banded system with potential for Sunday premium and night differential pay.

Job Qualifications

  • Strong background in leadership, communication and organization
  • proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • extensive experience in restaurant table and beverage service
  • managerial and supervisory experience including staff supervision, enforcing procedures, conducting surveys, reviewing reports, recommending promotions and revenue improvements
  • demonstrated experience managing cost controls to meet budgets
  • three years of managerial experience in a high volume restaurant operation
  • experience in a unionized managerial role
