The bakery prides itself on using high-quality ingredients and time-honored techniques to produce a variety of baked goods that delight customers daily. With a commitment to excellence and freshness, the Alaskan Sourdough Bakery has cultivated a loyal customer base that appreciates the authenticity and flavor of its sourdough breads as well as its carefully crafted pastries. The bakery environment is collaborative and fast-paced, with a focus on maintaining high standards of cleanliness and food safety. The bakery is an equal opportunity employer that values diversity and inclusivity in its workforce, providing an encouraging and supportive place to work for all its employees.
The role of the Assistant Baker is integral to the overnight production team, focusing primarily on the preparation and baking of the bakery’s signature sourdough bread and a select assortment of specialty pastries. This role offers a unique opportunity to develop and master the art of sourdough baking, including starter maintenance, dough mixing, proofing, and baking, all within a professional kitchen setting. The Assistant Baker will work overnight hours from 11 PM to 7 AM initially, with a subsequent shift change to 3 AM to 11 AM, supporting the seamless preparation of fresh products for the upcoming day. The position demands a strong attention to detail and adherence to recipes to ensure consistent quality in both taste and presentation. Additionally, the Assistant Baker is responsible for maintaining an organized and sanitary kitchen environment, managing inventory levels for baking supplies, packaging finished goods, and coordinating closely with the daytime staff to ensure smooth production continuity. A solid understanding of food safety regulations and best food handling practices is essential to the role, as it directly impacts the bakery’s reputation for quality and hygiene.
This full-time or part-time opportunity offers a competitive hourly wage starting at $23.00, reflecting the specialized skills and dedication required for the position. Ideal candidates will have prior experience in a bakery environment, especially with sourdough techniques, or demonstrate a strong passion and aptitude for baking. Physical stamina is also required, including the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work independently during overnight hours. The Alaskan Sourdough Bakery fosters a positive and inclusive workplace culture where employees can grow their skills and contribute to a shared passion for artisanal baking excellence. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone looking to build or advance their baking career within a respected bakery setting in Seattle’s culinary scene.
