The company operates a broad portfolio of brands spanning luxury, premium, and select-service hotels, including the Westin brand. Marriott’s dedication to creating memorable stays and fostering inclusive work environments for its associates has established it as a preferred employer and trusted service provider worldwide.
Westin, one of Marriott's distinguished brands, is committed to empowering travelers by focusing on wellness and rejuvenation. This commitment is reflected not only in the guest experience but also in the team culture, where associates are encouraged to embrace well-being practices and deliver exceptional service with passion and optimism. Westin aims to become the preeminent wellness brand in hospitality, continuously innovating to meet the evolving needs of its guests.
The Culinary Manager position at Westin is a vital management role responsible for ensuring seamless daily operations within the kitchen. This leadership position involves overseeing culinary staff, managing food production, purchasing, and maintaining high standards of kitchen sanitation. The Culinary Manager plays a key role in both guest and team member satisfaction while ensuring adherence to budgetary constraints.
As a Culinary Manager, you will lead by example during high-demand periods by personally assisting in cooking and food preparation. Your expertise will guide the team in delivering consistent culinary excellence and maintaining operational efficiency. Collaboration with restaurant and banquet departments is also essential to coordinate the timing and service of meals and events, ensuring an exceptional dining experience.
The role demands a commitment to innovation, with responsibilities including developing new culinary ideas, supporting new menu concepts, and creating attractive food displays. Maintaining rigorous food safety and sanitation practices is critical, alongside monitoring the quality of ingredients and finished dishes to meet the brand’s standards.
Supervisory responsibilities include motivating and coaching culinary team members, conducting performance appraisals, and fostering a collaborative and respectful work environment. You will ensure staff productivity, manage schedules to meet operational needs, and address employee concerns promptly. Training and development of team members will be part of your ongoing duties, supporting career growth and skills enhancement.
The Culinary Manager also has fiscal responsibilities, including managing food and supply inventories, placing orders within budget constraints, and contributing to the department’s financial objectives. Participation in department meetings to align team goals and communicate clear expectations is essential for achieving desired results.
Customer service excellence is paramount in this role. The manager must ensure quality standards are consistently met and strive to exceed guest expectations through proactive problem-solving and empowering employees to deliver outstanding service. Handling customer complaints professionally and setting a positive example for guest relations are also key components.
Additional duties encompass communicating effectively with supervisors, peers, and subordinates across various channels, complying with loss prevention policies, reporting equipment malfunctions, and fostering mutual trust and cooperation among team members. The position demands someone who embodies integrity, sound business judgement, and a passion for culinary arts and hospitality.
Joining Marriott International and the Westin team means becoming part of a company that values diversity, inclusiveness, and equal opportunity. Marriott is committed to non-discrimination based on disability, veteran status, or any other legally protected basis. The culture here celebrates a rich blend of backgrounds, talents, and experiences, inviting you to belong and become the best version of yourself. This position offers a dynamic work environment where your skills, creativity, and leadership can directly impact the success of the brand and satisfaction of its guests.
