The role being offered is that of a Bakery Associate, an essential position within the store’s bakery department. This role involves a variety of responsibilities centered on customer service, bakery product preparation, and department management support. The Bakery Associate is key to promoting positive customer interactions, ensuring the quality and freshness of baked goods, and assisting in operational tasks that keep the bakery running smoothly. This position is vital for maintaining customer satisfaction and achieving departmental goals related to merchandising, inventory control, and labor management.

As a Bakery Associate, you will be expected to engage customers with a friendly and professional attitude, answering questions and resolving any issues promptly. The job involves taking customer orders both in person and over the phone, as well as decorating cakes and other bakery products according to company standards and customer specifications. You will utilize various creams, frostings, and fillings to create consistent, high-quality products while adhering to approved recipes.

Additionally, the role requires assisting the Bakery Manager with daily operations such as scheduling, training, performance recognition, and inventory control. In the absence of the Bakery Manager, the Associate will assume managerial duties to ensure continuity and smooth functioning of the department. The position demands attentiveness to products' quality, freshness, and proper labeling, alongside controlling labor costs and minimizing waste.

Physical tasks include handling deliveries, checking invoices, unloading merchandise, and maintaining the cleanliness and appeal of the bakery section. Associates are expected to follow all safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment like cut-resistant gloves and safety cutters. Flexibility is also required as the Associate may be asked to assist in other store departments as needed.

This role is ideal for individuals with a background in retail or food service management, preferably with decorating experience. A high school diploma or GED is required, with further education in business or food service being advantageous. Job Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in management in retail, restaurant or supermarket environment
  • Ability to decorate cakes and other bakery products using various creams, frostings and fillings
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting and standing for long periods
  • Must be able to follow recipes and company policies
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays
  • Willingness to assist in other store departments as needed

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in business related or food service-related field desirable
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in management in retail, restaurant or supermarket environment
  • Previous decorating experience preferred
  • Knowledge of bakery operations and customer service best practices
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills
  • Ability to supervise and motivate associates
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Job Duties

  • Promotes excellent customer relations by instilling positive customer focused behavior with associates
  • Smiles and greets customers, answers customer questions and helps resolve customer issues promptly in a polite and professional manner
  • Takes customer orders over the phone or in person at the store with a pleasant and positive attitude
  • Decorates cakes and other bakery products using dye, specific designs or by creating custom designs
  • Assists Bakery Manager in day-to-day functions of Bakery operations such as merchandising, ad execution, associate engagement and customer service
  • Oversees department inventories by tracking weekly sales reports, product orders and supplies to ensure successful period-end physical inventory
  • Assists with scheduling all Bakery associates, participates in training, rewards and recognizes performance and delegates work assignments to effectively utilize talents and abilities
  • Develops and implements merchandising plans that meet financial goals
  • Checks and verifies all department deliveries and invoices to ensure accurate billing
  • Controls department expenses by improving operations and efficiencies, controls labor costs and reduces losses due to damages, spoiled product and shrink
  • Keeps bakery department well stocked and appealing to meet customer demand
  • Ensures that merchandise is fresh, in saleable condition and properly priced with the correct signage
  • May assist with the production of breads, pastries and other baked goods
  • Ensures smooth workflow within department by cooperating with co-workers and superiors
  • Responsible for utilization of all company provided Personal Protected Equipment (PPE)
  • May also be called upon to assist in other departments
