The Bakery Assistant Manager position at Albertsons Companies offers a dynamic and exciting opportunity for a candidate ready to take the next step in their career. This role is critical in supporting the Bakery Department Manager by assisting with departmental duties including ordering, merchandising, training, and maintaining optimal department conditions. The Bakery Assistant Manager plays a pivotal role in guest relations and satisfaction by ensuring a welcoming environment and addressing customer needs promptly and effectively. This position requires leadership, organizational skills, and a commitment to food safety and quality standards.

In this role, you will lead a team, support training initiatives, schedule shifts, and help develop future leaders within the bakery department. You will also have responsibilities related to safeguarding departmental assets, maintaining compliance with food safety procedures, and executing merchandising and promotional plans. The ideal candidate will be adaptable, work efficiently within a fast-paced environment, and demonstrate a passion for customer service and team collaboration. The Bakery Assistant Manager must also be capable of stepping into the Department Manager role when needed, managing inventory, coordinating reports, and fostering a positive morale among team members.

Job Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to work and communicate professionally with management and subordinates
  • Must have bakery experience preferred
  • Ability to self-motivate, problem-solve, and work with minimal supervision
  • Must perform physical tasks including bending, squatting, standing, lifting up to 50 lbs, pushing and pulling up to 100 lbs
  • Ability to stand for long periods (up to 4 hours)
  • Ability to work within a freezer environment for up to 15 minutes
  • Must have technical skills for basic math and computer tasks
  • Ability to work various shifts including weekends and holidays
  • Must maintain Certified Food Safety Manager certification
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus
  • Ability to accept supervisory coaching
  • Must work well with others and be a team player

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of one year bakery experience preferred
  • Ability to communicate professionally with all levels of management and subordinates
  • Ability to self-motivate and work with minimal supervision
  • Possess Certified Food Safety Manager certification
  • Ability to operate basic computer functions including Word, Excel, and Email
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, efficient, and controlled manner
  • Ability to accept supervisory coaching related to performance and work habits
  • Ability to function effectively as a team member

Job Duties

  • Acknowledge, greet, and engage guests in the bakery department
  • Assist in interviewing, training, scheduling, and performance management of bakery team members
  • Communicate information effectively to the bakery department
  • Maintain a positive atmosphere, spirit, and morale within the department
  • Demonstrate effective leadership through time management and delegation
  • Support development of team members and future leaders
  • Execute division concepts and programs
  • Contribute to meeting financial goals
  • Ensure consistent product quality and availability
  • Safeguard department assets and ensure policy compliance
  • Practice safe work habits and maintain cleanliness and organization
  • Utilize department systems and processes correctly
  • Collaborate with Department Manager to plan production and promotions
  • Assist with coaching and development of team members
  • Coordinate inventory processes and maintain updated manuals
  • Manage all department issues in the absence of the Department Manager
  • Ensure adherence to food safety procedures
  • Assist with merchandising including displays and promotional signage
  • Comply with retail labeling laws and company policies
  • Perform all bakery duties as needed including receiving, cleaning, baking, decorating, slicing, and packaging
  • Demonstrate good conflict management skills
  • Perform other duties as assigned by upper management
