The role of Assistant Baker at Vi at La Jolla Village presents an exciting opportunity to join their highly accomplished culinary team. This position is scheduled from Tuesday to Saturday, 5:30 am to 2:00 pm, offering a competitive hourly pay ranging from $22.65 to $24.45. The Assistant Baker will be responsible for the daily production of bakery and pastry items, ensuring that all products are of high quality, cost-effective, and complement the dining services menus effectively. This role requires a knowledgeable professional who can implement production techniques with precision, overseeing various baking tasks such as icing cakes, preparing pie crusts, working with ganache, tempering chocolate, and creating pastry creams and dessert sauces.

The Assistant Baker must have a foundational understanding of all baking and pastry products to reliably meet production goals. They will operate all bakery equipment and produce commercial recipes accurately while applying basic math skills to handle recipe conversions, food cost calculations, and inventory management. A focus on healthy and wellness cooking is preferred, including experience with fat-free, sugar-free, and low-sodium recipes, aligning with the health-conscious meals provided at Vi. Ideal candidates will either possess or be willing to obtain a Food Handlers certification as required. Job Requirements

  • Six months baking experience in a full-service bakery, restaurant, hotel, or store
  • willingness to obtain Food Handlers certification if not already possessed
  • basic working knowledge of production methods such as icing cakes, pie crust, ganache, tempering, mixing techniques, pastry cream, dessert sauces
  • capability to operate baking equipment
  • ability to understand and produce commercial production recipes
  • ability to perform basic mathematical calculations including recipe conversions, food cost, and inventories

Job Qualifications

  • Six months baking experience in a full-service bakery, restaurant, hotel, or store
