Job Description

The role of Load Planner is a critical component of the company’s logistics team. This full-time position focuses on the strategic planning and coordination of transportation services to maximize operational efficiency and productivity. The Load Planner will be responsible for streamlining all facets of freight transportation, concentrating on reducing shipping times, expediting routes, and optimizing loads for every kind of cargo transported. This role requires a proactive and detail-oriented individual who can apply professional judgment and discretion to daily tasks, with the end goal of enhancing overall service levels and contributing to the company’s key performance indicators (KPIs).
As a Load Planner, you will partner closely with dispatchers and fleet managers to implement effective shipping operations and ensure all scheduling aligns with business objectives. The role involves developing daily operating plans and adjusting strategies based on real-time data and evolving circumstances. The Load Planner will also evaluate current operations and forecast future plans to improve payload capacity, on-time deliveries, and loaded mile percentages. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are necessary to engage with various stakeholders including team leaders, customers, drivers, dispatchers, and other departments to maintain smooth and efficient operations.
Continuously assessing and revising transportation plans for maximized growth, cost efficiency, and safety is an essential part of the job. The Load Planner will also seek new freight opportunities by liaising with existing and potential customers while keeping sourcing information updated. This role will support and manage up to 75 drivers day-to-day, coordinate maintenance with terminal managers and lead technicians, and ensure adherence to company policies and safety standards.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent business experience
- previous logistics dispatch or scheduling experience preferred
- knowledge and familiarity with Microsoft and logistics application software
- ability to solve problems and work in high pressure situations, using independent judgment and discretion
- ability to work well in teams with staff and contractors from all departments
- excellent written and oral communication
- excellent personal skills and positive attitude

Job Duties
- Partner with dispatchers and fleet managers to plan and carry out shipping operations
- develop daily operating plan with emphasis on achieving established department KPIs
- evaluate current operating plan and create future plans with focus on payload, on-time deliveries, and loaded mile percentage
- engage and collaborate daily with Scheduling Team Leaders on opportunities of growth and improvement for company assets
- assess and adjust current and future operating plans to maximize growth, efficiency and safety
- solicit new and existing customers for freight opportunities
- update known sourcing as changes occur and revise daily operating plan as necessary to ensure operational efficiency
- maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner which facilitates the overall efficiency and success of business operations
- communicate effectively with customers, drivers, dispatchers, and other departments to ensure a smooth and efficient operation
- manage day-to-day operations of up to 75 drivers
- coordinate maintenance issues and needs with Terminal Managers and Lead Technicians
