Assembly Technician

The Assembly Technician position entails assembling components as specified by customer work orders, engineering process routers, blueprints, and any applicable codes or specifications. The individual in this role is responsible for producing components that conform to blueprint dimensions with exact tolerances. All moving parts of the assembled components must function correctly to meet quality standards. Additionally, maintaining the cleanliness and preservation of internal parts along with the final appearance of the product is required. Attention to detail and adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions (WIs) are critical aspects of the role to ensure that production standards and workplace safety are upheld. The Assembly Technician reports to the Assembly and Finishing Team Leader and does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Key responsibilities for the Assembly Technician include interpreting blueprints, sketches, drawings, routing instructions, and specifications to determine the dimensions and tolerances of finished components. The role requires strong mechanical aptitude and proficiency in working with hand tools, torque tools, and precision measuring instruments. The technician will operate various shop equipment such as grinders, drills, and other manual power tools to complete assembly tasks. This position also requires operational knowledge of equipment including electro etchers, hydro test pumps, and vacuum pumps. Material handling tasks involving fork trucks and overhead cranes are part of the daily activities. Data accuracy is essential, which involves entering correct information into the data collection system and ensuring precise labor reporting. The technician must consistently maintain workspace cleanliness, monitor the condition of equipment, and communicate effectively with supervisors and co-workers to coordinate tasks.

This is a physically demanding role requiring the ability to stand, walk, push, pull, and reach overhead, as well as engage in activities that involve bending and exerting various levels of force. The work environment may expose employees to high noise levels, physical hazards, fumes, dust, mist, and contact with oils and cutting fluids, requiring a focus on safety and the use of appropriate protective measures. Near visual acuity is necessary for reading detailed blueprints and assembling small parts, while hearing ability is important for monitoring machinery sounds for maintenance and safety purposes.
