The Assembly Technician role at Wabtec is a critical position within the production lines, situated at the Kansas City, MO location. This role involves working closely with fellow technicians, production supervisors, quality control, safety coordinators, maintenance personnel, and engineering teams to ensure the highest manufacturing standards. Employees in this position utilize a variety of hand, power, pneumatic, and hydraulic tools along with fixtures and detailed work instructions to assemble and disassemble components accurately. Attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to perform complex assembly tasks are essential to maintaining product quality and operational excellence.
The position operates during a Monday through Thursday schedule from 5:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with occasional overtime on Fridays and Saturdays as required. This schedule supports operational needs while promoting work-life balance. The Assembly Technician will be responsible for following strict operating procedures, maintaining a clean and safe workspace according to the 5S protocol, and being willing to cross-train to support team flexibility and productivity. Physical demands of the job include lifting or moving weights up to 50 pounds regularly, standing for extended periods throughout the shift, and working in a non-temperature controlled shop environment exposed to varying temperatures.
Compensation for this role starts at an hourly rate of $22.50, with the actual salary offered depending on factors such as training, transferable skills, experience, education, market demands, and work location. Job Requirements
- High school degree or equivalent preferred
- Knowledge of basic mechanics, hand tools, and machine testing procedures
- 1+ year of experience performing mechanical jobs, assembly and disassembly preferred
- Experience with overhead crane is a plus but not required
- Must be able to identify and understand use of specific hand, pneumatic, and power tools
- Mechanical training (votech or previous job experience) preferred
- Ability to correctly use and read analog and digital measuring devices
- Basic computer skills are a plus
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Problem solving ability
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in English
Job Qualifications

- Preferred 1+ year of experience performing mechanical jobs, assembly and disassembly
- Experience with overhead crane is a plus but not required

- Nice to have ability to correctly use and read analog and digital measuring devices such as micrometers, indicators, calipers
- Basic computer skills are a plus but not required

- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately and consistently in English
Job Duties
- Follow detailed assembly and disassembly instructions, processes and procedures
- Assemble components by examining connections for correct fit, fastening parts and subassemblies
- Disassemble components by utilizing hand and power tools
- Clean and buff components
- Wash components in solvent and run parts through parts washer
- Blowout parts to remove solvent and dirt
- Maintain a clean and safe workplace in accordance with 5S protocol
