Job Description
Hyatt is a world-renowned hospitality company recognized for its commitment to delivering exceptional guest experiences through caring and attentive associates. At the core of Hyatt's service philosophy is the belief that guests choose Hyatt not just because of the quality of accommodations, but because of the meaningful and personalized experiences crafted by its dedicated team members. Hyatt operates a diverse portfolio of luxury and lifestyle hotels across the globe, each designed to embody unique local cultures and provide memorable stays.
Arriba Abajo is a new and exciting Cantina-themed Bar and Restaurant concept located within the Thompson and Tommie Austin hotels, two premier lifestyle destinations in Downtown Austin. Scheduled to open in early Spring, Arriba Abajo spans 17,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor dining and lounge space, offering an immersive culinary experience. The venue features multiple spaces for private events as well as a dynamic pool deck that serves both hotel guests and residents, making it a vibrant social hub in the heart of Austin.
The Culinary Supervisor position at Arriba Abajo plays a pivotal role in delivering superior food quality and operational excellence. This supervisory role involves overseeing food preparation and cooking while supporting the Executive Chef in managing the kitchen team of hourly employees. The Culinary Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that every dish served meets high standards of quality and consistency, all while exceeding guest expectations through timely and professional service.
In addition to culinary expertise, the Culinary Supervisor contributes to the training and development of team members, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement. The role requires basic skills in departmental training and the capability to assume full departmental responsibilities during the Executive Chef's absence. Effective supervision includes monitoring food production, inventory control, maintaining cost efficiencies, and upholding rigorous safety and sanitation standards across all kitchen operations.
Both the Thompson and Tommie hotels are iconic lifestyle properties offering distinct experiences tailored to diverse traveler profiles. Thompson Austin boasts 212 luxury guestrooms and suites, 17 private residences, a 10,000 square foot wellness center, and multiple food and beverage venues including an expansive pool deck with private cabanas. Tommie Austin is designed for the adventurous spirit, featuring 193 king rooms and bespoke communal spaces like a coffee and wine shop aimed at inspiring creativity and connection. Together, these hotels create a unique environment where the Arriba Abajo concept can thrive.
Hyatt is committed to creating a supportive, dynamic workplace where associates can grow professionally while contributing to the brand's prestigious reputation. Employees enjoy a comprehensive rewards package including various health and welfare plans, financial wellbeing programs such as a 401(k), college savings plans, and employee stock purchase options. Lifestyle benefits include paid time off for vacation, holidays and sick leave, family bonding time, adoption assistance, discounted stays at Hyatt properties worldwide, complimentary meals during shifts, and opportunities for wellbeing and educational advancement.
The Culinary Supervisor role at Arriba Abajo offers an exceptional career opportunity for individuals passionate about culinary arts and hospitality leadership. Working at Hyatt offers the chance to be part of a global company that values innovation, inclusivity, and professional excellence. The position requires flexible scheduling including weekends and holidays, and expects the incumbent to bring a positive attitude, teamwork spirit, and a dedication to delivering the Hyatt Touch—a signature experience that differentiates Hyatt associates in hospitality.
This role is not just about managing kitchen operations; it is about leading a team to create meaningful guest experiences that resonate long after dining concludes. Hyatt encourages candidates from diverse backgrounds to apply and is committed to equal employment opportunities without discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or veteran status.
