Job Description
Arriba Abajo is a vibrant, Cantina-themed Bar and Restaurant located within the prestigious Thompson and Tommie Austin hotels, two leading lifestyle destinations in Downtown Austin, Texas. Set to open in early Spring, this exciting new concept boasts 17,000 square feet of sophisticated indoor and outdoor dining and lounge space, multiple venues for private events, and an exclusive pool deck servicing both hotel guests and residents. The establishment represents a culinary and hospitality blend that embraces Austin's rich cultural spirit while offering an upscale, modern dining experience. With a focus on authenticity and guest satisfaction, Arriba Abajo aims to be a cornerstone of the downtown food and beverage scene, providing flavorful cuisine and inviting atmosphere for both locals and travelers alike.
The Line Cook role at Arriba Abajo demands strong communication skills and culinary expertise. This position is ideal for candidates with prior hotel cooking experience and a culinary degree, as the role requires in-depth knowledge of cooking ingredients, techniques, and kitchen procedures. The successful Line Cook will work on single stations within the kitchen and will receive significant supervision and ongoing training to refine their skills. They are expected to deliver consistent, high-quality food products that meet and exceed guest expectations in a timely manner. Daily responsibilities include monitoring food production, maintaining quality and consistency, managing staffing levels, and contributing to department training efforts. Strong organizational skills, cost control awareness, and effective communication are critical. Additionally, the Line Cook must be capable of stepping in to provide kitchen direction in the absence of the hourly Sous Chef. This role offers a remarkable opportunity to develop professionally within a dynamic environment that values culinary artistry, guest engagement, and team collaboration.
Thompson Austin, one of the premier hotels housing Arriba Abajo, features 212 luxury guestrooms and suites along with 17 residences, a 10,000 square foot wellness center, and three distinct restaurant and bar concepts. It also offers an expansive pool deck, private cabanas, and over 10,000 square feet of flexible event space. Adjacent is the 193-room Tommie Austin, a vibrant hotel designed for adventurous travelers. At Tommie, guests are encouraged to immerse themselves in Austin's unique cultural offerings, surrounded by art and atmosphere influenced by the local neighborhood. This hotel features bespoke coffee and wine shops, offering guests full control of their stay complemented by warm, authentic service.
Arriba Abajo, alongside the other hotel restaurants — The 5th Street Diner offering street-side daily fare and The Royal Room — represents a refined culinary experience that balances local charm with upscale sophistication. The mixed-use development encompassing these hotels also includes the residential tower Sienna, retail spaces, and a state-of-the-art fitness center known as the "T" Box, complete with a simulator room. Together, these venues create a vibrant hospitality ecosystem that delivers outstanding service and memorable experiences to both guests and residents.
