Job Description
Loomis is a leading provider of secure armored transportation, cash management services, and cash inventory vaults with nearly 200 branches across the United States. The company plays a vital role in the financial industry by ensuring that cash flows smoothly between financial institutions and retail businesses. Loomis is known not only for its safety and reliability but also for its commitment to employee growth and career advancement. Many high-level executives within the company began their careers within branch operations as driver/guards and tellers, which speaks to the company’s dedication to internal promotions and professional development. Loomis offers a challenging yet rewarding work environment for those who are motivated and eager to learn, making it an ideal workplace for individuals seeking long-term career opportunities in the cash management and security field.
The Vault Custodian position at Loomis is a full-time role with a starting pay of $19.50 per hour. As a Vault Custodian, you will be an essential part of the team responsible for maintaining inventory accuracy in Loomis cash vaults. Your daily responsibilities will include checking and verifying identifying numbers or seals on bags of deposits and change shipments against accompanying receipts or manifests. This role requires meticulous attention to detail as you will count currency, coins, and checks, record amounts and serial numbers accurately, and sign and date all receipts and manifests to ensure proper documentation.
In addition to inventory duties, Vault Custodians aid in loading and unloading wagons or carts carrying bags and boxes of coin, organize cargo by route, and maintain constant communication with co-workers and customers via telephone. The job demands physical stamina and strength since employees will routinely handle currency bags weighing approximately 50 pounds each, multiple times throughout a shift that may last from 6 to 10 hours and can extend to 5 or 6 days a week. It also requires the ability to push wheeled equipment loaded with heavy cargo, and stand for the majority of the shift on concrete floors.
Working as a Vault Custodian means you will operate primarily within a vault environment, often with little to no natural light. The role involves repetitious tasks including bending, stooping, squatting, walking, twisting, and reaching. Successful candidates must possess strong numerical skills to count, add, subtract, and balance columns of numbers efficiently. Good communication skills and the ability to read and interpret receipts, manifests, and reports are essential for this role. Furthermore, compliance with state firearms licensing or the ability to meet the state-specific requirements for carrying a firearm is mandatory, ensuring the safety and security of the cash vault environment.
Loomis also conducts a Human Performance Evaluation (HPE) for Vault Custodian candidates that measures physical capabilities such as lifting varying weights from different heights, pushing and pulling weighted sleds, and squeezing hand dynamometers. This evaluation ensures that only those physically capable of managing the demanding tasks are hired.
Loomis prides itself on comprehensive employee benefits, including paid vacation and sick time, paid holidays, health and dental insurance coverage, vision plans, 401(k) retirement plans, life insurance options, flexible spending accounts, and extensive training programs. These benefits reflect the company’s investment in its employees’ well-being and professional development. As an Equal Opportunity Employer, Loomis ensures a fair and inclusive hiring process without discrimination based on race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or disability. If you are hardworking, detail-oriented, and interested in contributing to a secure and efficient financial services operation, becoming a Vault Custodian at Loomis offers a promising career path with strong support and growth opportunities.
