The Area Supervisor role at Ross is a critical member of the store leadership team responsible for managing a specific assigned area within the store and overseeing overall operations, particularly when functioning as the Manager on Duty. This full-time supervisory position entails opening and closing the store, managing associates, and ensuring the store environment is clean, safe, and welcoming. The Area Supervisor plays an essential role in maintaining merchandise presentation standards, enforcing company operational processes, and creating a secure shopping environment for customers and employees alike. They support loss prevention efforts and coach associates to deliver exceptional customer service and operational efficiency. Other responsibilities include supervising front-end operations, managing fitting rooms, maintaining the stockroom, handling administrative duties assigned by the Store Manager, and ensuring compliance with company policies and safety regulations.
This role demands a proactive leader who demonstrates integrity, communicates effectively, and leads by example. Key competencies include managing work processes, building talent, business acumen, collaboration, and ensuring accountability and execution. The Area Supervisor must be well-versed in loss prevention practices and able to foster a respectful and friendly atmosphere for associates and customers. Prior customer service experience and supervisory skills are preferred, alongside an ability to perform basic math calculations, handle point-of-sale equipment, and work flexible hours including evenings and weekends. Physically, the role requires standing and moving throughout the store for most of the workday, the ability to lift items, and use ladders and other equipment safely. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Prior retail or supervisory experience preferred
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, stoop for extended periods
- Ability to occasionally push, pull, and lift more than 25 lbs
- Ability to operate store equipment including PDTs and registers
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
- Ability to maintain a professional appearance and adhere to company dress code
Job Qualifications
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Fluency in English
- Prior customer service and supervisory experience preferred
- Familiarity with point-of-sale equipment and applications
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments
- Ability to work evenings and weekends
