The role of the Area Supervisor at Ross Stores is a critical leadership position within the Store Leadership team. This role bears responsibility for overseeing a designated area of the store and managing overall store operations during times when acting as the Manager on Duty. The Area Supervisor ensures a friendly and easy-to-shop environment by maintaining proper merchandise presentation, supervising associates, and upholding a clean, well-organized store space. The position includes opening and closing the store, executing company operational procedures, and reinforcing loss prevention strategies. The Area Supervisor plays a vital role in maintaining safety and security throughout the store, including controlling access points, monitoring electronic surveillance systems, and ensuring compliance with emergency procedures.

In addition to operational duties, this role demands exceptional customer service skills and leadership by example. The Area Supervisor treats customers, associates, and fellow leaders with respect and professionalism while fostering a culture of recognition and teamwork. Responsible for merchandising standards, the Area Supervisor ensures that sales floors, stockrooms, fitting rooms, and front-end areas meet company guidelines for presentation, cleanliness, and organization. They also coach and train staff on register procedures, loss prevention practices, and customer engagement techniques to drive productivity and enhance the shopping experience.

The Area Supervisor manages various administrative tasks assigned by the Store Manager, including payroll administration, cash handling, and compliance with refund and break schedules. Physical requirements for the role include the ability to stand and move throughout the store for the majority of the working time, lift and carry stockroom and merchandise items, and operate equipment necessary for daily operations. Supervisory responsibilities include overseeing retail associates and stockroom leads where applicable.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior retail or supervisory experience preferred
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Capability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs
  • Ability to use retail technology including registers and PDTs

Job Qualifications

  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Fluency in English
  • Prior customer service and supervisory experience preferred
  • Familiarity with point-of-sale equipment and applications
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends
