Job Description
Era Living is a respected organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for older adults through vibrant and engaging community living. Established with a clear mission to provide exceptional senior living experiences, Era Living operates multiple communities primarily in the Pacific Northwest. Recognized for its commitment to excellence, Era Living was honored as the "2025 Winner: Best in the Pacific Northwest - Senior Community" by the Seattle Times, highlighting its reputation as a leader in senior care and community services. The company prides itself on fostering an environment of integrity, credibility, consistency, and teamwork, placing a strong emphasis on values-based approaches to service and employee engagement.
Era Living is currently seeking an Area Sous Chef to join its culinary team based in the corporate office located in downtown Seattle, WA. This role offers a dynamic work environment characterized by built-in flexibility and the opportunity to cover schedule vacancies across various residential properties. The Area Sous Chef is pivotal in supporting community food service teams by stepping into the Culinary Services Director role during absences, providing leadership and continuity to kitchen operations. Work shifts generally fall between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., with a regular schedule that allows occasional adjustments to meet the operational needs of the communities served. This position offers competitive compensation with an hourly wage ranging between $32 and $35, reflecting the experience and skills required for the role.
In this position, the Area Sous Chef is responsible for directing kitchen staff, ensuring that all culinary duties are performed efficiently, maintaining cleanliness and proper food storage standards, and assisting with staff training and development. The job demands a strong culinary knowledge base with the ability to perform all food service functions within a healthcare institution or equivalent setting. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are necessary to work collaboratively across multiple teams and locations. Flexibility and adaptability are essential due to the variable nature of the work schedule and the need to fill in at different community sites as required.
Era Living offers a comprehensive benefits package designed to support employee well-being, financial security, and professional growth. Benefits include pre-tax commuter benefits, medical, vision, and prescription drug plans, dental coverage, life and accidental death and dismemberment insurance, flexible spending accounts, a 401(k) retirement plan with a generous company match (subject to age eligibility), and a progressive vacation package beginning with 15 days per year. Furthermore, employees receive eight paid holidays annually with double pay for holidays worked, paid sick time accrued at one hour per every 40 hours worked, an employee assistance program, longevity bonuses, and various employee discount programs.
At Era Living, employees are valued not only for their skills and experience but also for their commitment to enhancing the lives of older adults, embodying the organization's core values. This role provides a unique opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the senior living community while advancing one’s culinary career within a supportive and mission-driven environment. Candidates passionate about delivering quality culinary services in a healthcare-oriented and community-focused setting are encouraged to apply and join this award-winning team.
