ABM (NYSE: ABM) is one of the world’s largest providers of facility services and solutions. Established in 1909, ABM has a long history of creating cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environments for its clients across a wide range of industries. The company offers a broad portfolio of essential services including janitorial, engineering, parking, electrical and lighting, energy and electric vehicle charging infrastructure, HVAC and mechanical, landscape and turf, and mission critical solutions. ABM operates internationally with over 100,000 team members serving more than 20,000 clients from over 350 offices in the United States, United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, and other countries. Driven by a commitment to excellence and innovation, ABM is dedicated to improving the spaces and places that matter most, from commercial office buildings and universities to airports, hospitals, data centers, manufacturing plants, distribution centers, and entertainment venues.
The Area Operations Manager role at ABM is a critical leadership position responsible for the operational and financial management of a designated area. This position requires overseeing key operational roles such as Service Managers, Project Managers, and Project Estimators to ensure the successful delivery of service and project objectives. The Area Operations Manager is tasked with managing operational budgets, forecasts, reporting, and cash management with a focus on driving financial performance aligned with company goals. With a keen eye for detail, this role ensures compliance with contract requirements through implementation of cost control measures and service standards, while supporting consistent application of company policies, procedures, and programs.
Safety, quality control, and inventory management are essential components of this role, as the Area Operations Manager oversees inspections, equipment, and supplies to maintain operational excellence. Leadership is key, as this position directs and evaluates team performance, resolves employee issues, and administers discipline and termination practices fairly and consistently. The manager also plays an important role in driving margin growth through operational improvements, collaborating closely with sales teams and estimators to support sales efforts. In partnership with the Area Operations Support Manager, the Area Operations Manager seeks continuous improvement opportunities and ensures a superior client experience through clear and timely communication.
Operational success is measured and driven through careful analysis of performance metrics and data, enabling informed decision-making and strategic enhancements. The Area Operations Manager also supports special projects as assigned by the Area General Manager, further contributing to company-wide growth and operational efficiency. This role demands someone with excellent customer service and sales skills, robust knowledge of HVAC and refrigeration systems, and the ability to work collaboratively across multiple business units. Exceptional leadership qualities, strong verbal and written communication, conflict management skills, and organizational proficiency are essential. The position requires a valid driver’s license, willingness to work non-standard hours, and may involve up to 50% travel. A bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred, along with at least 5 years of HVAC management-related experience. Overall, this opportunity offers a dynamic and rewarding career path within a global leader in facility services and solutions, committed to employee development, diversity, and creating a safe, inclusive work environment.
