The Area Operations Director - Modernization for the Midwest Area is a senior leadership role that drives the success of modernization operations in this critical region. This position is responsible for overseeing projects from booking to turnover with a strong focus on operational efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and profitability. The director will manage multiple branch operations, ensuring budget and profit goals are not only met but exceeded. A key part of the role involves fostering a culture of safety through training, audits, and employee engagement, ensuring all aspects of the business comply with stringent safety standards.
In addition, the director will review financial reports such as P&L statements to monitor and adjust strategies for optimized performance and job backlog management. They will plan and prioritize elevator modernization efforts, aligning manpower needs and employing project management tools to supervise project managers effectively. Jobsite visits to survey progress, troubleshoot issues, and conduct quality audits are essential to maintain high standards of service delivery. Strong customer relationship management will be a top priority, enhancing long-term growth and client satisfaction.
The role also demands strategic oversight of bidding and profitability for large, complex modernization jobs. This includes technical input during bids, attending pre-bid meetings, and leading fade initiatives to maximize growth. The director will have authority over change orders, purchase approvals, and financial processes critical to project and operational success. Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of company products, elevator industry codes, and regulatory compliance is crucial.
This position requires collaboration across multiple corporate departments, including legal, labor relations, and factory teams, ensuring seamless communication and execution of initiatives. The Area Operations Director may also take on direct project responsibilities or crew oversight for special assignments. The role offers a competitive salary range (approximately $190,000 to $252,000 depending on location), a car allowance, fuel card, and an annual incentive program. Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or IUEC (full mechanic) in lieu of degree
- 10+ years in upper-level management in elevator or related fields preferred
- Ability to analyze problems and draw valid conclusions
- Ability to interpret technical instructions and handle variables
- Valid driver's license and satisfactory motor vehicle report
- Strong organizational and leadership capabilities
- Excellent communication skills
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or IUEC (full mechanic) considered in lieu of degree
- 10+ years of upper-level management in elevator or related industries preferred
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
- Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Proven experience with budget management and project execution
- Familiarity with elevator industry codes and standards
- Valid driver's license and satisfactory motor vehicle report
Job Duties
- Drive and support a culture of safety throughout the organization
- Drive success of area modernization processes from booking to turnover
- Review P&L and financial reports to monitor branch performance
- Plan, direct, and prioritize elevator modernization projects and manpower
- Visit jobsites to survey progress and perform quality audits
- Develop and maintain strong customer relationships
- Implement and oversee strategic fade initiatives and participate in job bids
- Approve change orders, purchase orders, and other financial authorizations
- Maintain familiarity with company products and industry code requirements
- Support US Field Operations and Area initiatives and collaborate with corporate departments
- Possible direct project field crew oversight or special project responsibilities
- Perform other duties as assigned
