Job Description

SSA Group is currently seeking a talented Area Chef to join their dynamic team. This full-time, exempt role offers a competitive compensation package that includes a $75 monthly cell phone stipend, flexible time off without accruals, comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and life insurance options, and participation in a 401(k) program featuring a 15% company match after eligibility. The Area Chef will have culinary oversight responsibilities for multiple prominent locations including USS Bowfin, Hanauma Bay, Honolulu Zoo, and Waikiki Beachside Bistro. Reporting directly to the District Chef, the Area Chef will play an essential role in supporting daily park operations with a culinary perspective, assisting with menu development, seasonal operational planning, financial reporting, and inventory management. The role requires collaborating closely with Executive Chefs, General Managers, and clients to uphold culinary standards aligned with company policies and customer expectations.

This position demands strong leadership skills, as the Area Chef will either directly lead or partner with senior managers to foster growth and development among team members through coaching and mentorship. Effective communication skills are vital, as the role involves navigating conversations with the District Chef, procurement teams, and regional executives to maintain cohesive operational success. The Area Chef also supports corporate programs focused on sustainability and local purchasing, ensuring that all units serve as exemplary models for conservation efforts and community engagement.

  • Easily navigate US Foods and other ordering sites and functionalities

  • ensure unit strives to be an example for company & client guidelines with regard to sustainability/conservation efforts
  • display knowledge of efforts in business application as well as give adequate opportunity for teaching to unit staff as necessary
  • support SSA / Unit in driving community effort through hiring efforts, engagement activities, and focus on opportunities of giving back
  • eight plus years in management role
  • HAACP knowledge, ServSafe Manager or equivalent food safety certifications necessary
  • culinary education preferred

Job Duties

  • Support with training on daily park operations from a culinary perspective as well as menu building and seasonal operations approach with District Chef oversight
  • support and maintain vendor relationships in area, maintaining corporate programs while driving sustainability and diversity in purchasing in supporting local purchasing and purview
  • assist District Chef on financial reporting through inventory and COG management and sales forecasting in partnership with operations
  • support District Chef on maintaining and budgeted inventory and Cost of Goods (COG) with partnership of Executive Chef(s) in district
  • assist the District Chef on building relationships with at unit EC's, Gm's, and clients
  • lead through partnership or directly leading senior managers
  • maintain good working relationship with Procurement, District Chef, General Manager(s), Regional Vice President(s)
  • comfortably navigate communication with District Chef and team
  • continually assist the District Chef on developing team members through coaching and mentoring
  • partner with GM and Executive Chef on large-scale seasonal planning from a culinary (catering, operations, menu) perspective
  • ability to map out needs, functions, and planning for multiple locations with District Chef oversight
  • assist District Chef on designated individuals in developing training standards for food service, safety, maintenance, etc.
  • remain knowledgeable of and manages in accordance with all applicable local, state and federal laws
  • maintain a clean, safe and organized work environment
  • uphold and demonstrate a complete understanding of company policies and procedures
  • knowledge of business financials, training Executive Chef(s) on areas of business acumen: set precedent to achieve Sales, Per Cap & Controllable Budget with District chef oversight
  • assist District Chef with reviews, support execution of culinary plans for major special events in the area with partnership of General Manager and Executive Chef
  • support Executive Chef with menu planning, driving corporate programs and expectations as set by the District Chef
