Job Description
TCA Architects is a renowned architecture firm that has been pioneering innovative architectural, planning, and urban design services since its inception in 1993. The firm operates from multiple offices located in Oakland, Irvine, Los Angeles, and Honolulu, positioning itself as a leader specializing in multifamily housing, mixed-use developments, hospitality projects, urban infill developments, and master-planned communities. Known for its technical expertise and collaborative culture, TCA Architects is deeply committed to creating vibrant, thoughtful community spaces through outstanding design principles. Currently, the firm boasts a robust portfolio with over 20,000 residential units in development, making it one of the most active and respected multifamily architecture firms in the state of California.
The Architectural Job Captain position at TCA Architects is a remarkable career opportunity designed for professionals who are eager to engage in large-scale multifamily and mixed-use development projects that are actively shaping the urban landscape across California. This role is situated in Oakland, CA, and offers a hybrid work schedule, balancing in-office and remote workdays, which supports a healthy work-life balance. The base salary for this position ranges from $90,000 to $125,000 annually and can increase depending on experience. Alongside the competitive salary, TCA Architects provides a comprehensive compensation package including annual bonuses, licensure reimbursement, ARE exam support, healthcare benefits, 401(k) plans, flexible scheduling options, half-day Fridays, and robust professional development programs.
As an Architectural Job Captain, you will serve as the essential link between the creative design vision and the precision of technical execution. Your primary responsibility will involve the coordination of project documentation, integration of consultant contributions, and creation of detailed construction documentation for multifamily and mixed-use residential projects. You will work closely with an experienced team of architects, project managers, consultants, and principals, gaining invaluable exposure to all phases of project delivery from initial design development to final construction administration. This role not only focuses on honing technical and leadership skills but also supports long-term career progression, including architectural licensure, making it an excellent platform for professionals aiming to advance within a respected design practice.
Working at TCA Architects means engaging in projects that significantly influence the development of dynamic cities such as Oakland, San Francisco, Berkeley, Emeryville, San Jose, Mountain View, South San Francisco, and the broader Bay Area. The firm encourages a collaborative, studio-oriented environment where knowledge-sharing and mentorship are integral parts of the culture. Employees benefit from structured mentorship programs, support for architectural licensure through ARE exam reimbursement and AXP support, and the opportunity to develop leadership competencies while managing complex projects that require sophisticated technical problem-solving and coordination.
The hybrid work setting, including half-day Fridays and flexible schedules, exemplifies TCA Architects’ commitment to promoting a balanced and healthy professional life. With direct collaboration with industry leaders and exposure to large-scale multifamily and mixed-use developments, this position is ideal for candidates passionate about shaping residential architecture in California while advancing their technical expertise and project management skills within a supportive and innovative firm.
