Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Two to three years of professional experience in aquatic programming and supervision
- Current certifications including BLS (CPR-PRO), First Aid, Emergency Oxygen, Lifeguard, and/or Swim Instructor
- Ability to obtain Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification within 3 months of employment
- Preferred certifications include YLGI and YSLIT
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize daily workloads
- Ability to handle conflict resolution professionally
- Capacity to work in a physically active environment requiring sitting, standing, walking, bending, talking, and lifting
- Willingness to comply with YMCA's policies and culture
- Ability to foster an inclusive and welcoming environment for all members and staff.
Job Qualifications
- Relevant experience, certifications, and practical skills in aquatic programming and management
- Two to three years of professional experience with focus on aquatics and leadership
- Current BLS (CPR-PRO), First Aid, Emergency Oxygen, Lifeguard, and/or Swim Instructor certifications
- Must be able to obtain CPO within 3 months
- YLGI and YSLIT certifications preferred
- Expertise in multi-mode communications with diverse audiences
- Ability to plan effectively and manage distractions
- Comfortable navigating complex policies and organizational dynamics
- Strong influence on behavior and attitudes with positive leadership
- Ability to build good-natured relationships with diverse groups
- Commitment to fostering a culture of inclusion and belonging.
Job Duties
- Assist in providing high-quality member experience in programs and operations
- Support in communication towards members for programs and operations
- Assist in addressing complaints and resolving problems
- Aid in the marketing and distribution of program/operations information
- Work with the Aquatics Director to assist in conducting performance appraisals, rewards, and discipline
- Monitor program registration, prepare necessary paperwork, and return phone calls and e-mails as needed
- Oversee program implementation and quality
- Update pool availability in Motion Vibe for pool space needed for lessons
- Compile program reports and statistics
- Assist in processing employment paperwork
- Assist with lifeguard/swim instructor scheduling and securing substitutes
- Assist with and conduct staff orientations and communications
- Monitor and update all required staff certifications
- Assist with pool maintenance as determined by Aquatics Director
- Ensure swim lesson instructors follow the curriculum and use swim lesson skill progress trackers
- Provide progress trackers, report cards, and certificates to participants
- Evaluate the program and instructors quarterly
- Lead monthly in-services for swim instructors
- Lead and manage swimming programs with help of Lead Staff
- Attend and assist with planning and execution of meetings, in-services, and training
- Assist with ongoing supervision and training of aquatics staff
- Train, develop, and support swim lesson instructors
- Handle complaints and use conflict resolution techniques
- Audit staff to ensure continued quality of swim lesson program
- Ensure all swim lesson instructors get YSLI V6 certified within 3 months of employment
- Help ensure programs meet minimum participant numbers with Aquatics Director
- Complete other assigned duties.
