Job Description

The YMCA of Central New York (CNY) is a leading nonprofit, charitable organization dedicated to strengthening communities with purpose and intentionality. Rooted in Judeo-Christian principles, the YMCA works tirelessly to build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all ages through a wide array of programs focusing on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Embracing core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility, the YMCA fosters an inclusive and welcoming environment where every individual is valued, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential. The YMCA of CNY is committed to creating strong foundations within communities and families by investing in children, health, neighbors, and core human values.

The Aquatics Coordinator position at the YMCA of CNY offers a unique opportunity to be part of this impactful mission while contributing directly to the operation and success of aquatic programs and facilities. This role involves managing all facets of aquatic programs including swim lessons, certification courses, aquatic rentals, and special events. The coordinator also oversees pool facility maintenance and manages aquatic staff including lifeguards and swim instructors. The position requires maintaining a positive, welcoming atmosphere where safety, enjoyment, and respect for all individuals are paramount.

Working part-time at 10-15 hours weekly with a flexible schedule, and an hourly wage ranging between $18.00 and $22.00, the Aquatics Coordinator plays a crucial leadership role. Responsibilities include supervising aquatic programs, recruiting and training staff, ensuring adherence to YMCA and health department standards, and fostering strong relationships among volunteers, members, participants, and colleagues. This role also requires strong program management skills to help grow enrollment and maintain high-quality aquatic offerings.

Through this position, you will live the YMCA values by being a genuine, nurturing, and determined leader who communicates effectively and embodies the organization’s commitment to inclusion and safety. You will contribute to creating an engaging aquatic environment where members and staff not only achieve their personal goals but also feel like valued members of a caring community. The role demands a blend of critical thinking, communication, decision-making, and leadership skills, along with the ability to respond swiftly in emergency situations. The YMCA supports ongoing professional growth and training, allowing the Aquatics Coordinator to develop both personally and professionally while making a measurable impact in the community.

This is more than a job; it is a career with a cause, ideal for an individual passionate about community wellness, aquatic safety, and program development.
